Nicolás Leoz anunció este viernes
que en marzo la FIFA reunirá su
Comité ejecutivo para reconsiderar la
decisión que despojó de media plaza
(repesca) a Sudamérica para clasificar
al Mundial de Alemania-2006.

The FIFA World Cup™ will head to South America in 2014 following a decision taken by the FIFA Executive Committee, chaired by President Joseph S. Blatter, on the second day of its meeting at FIFA headquarters in Zurich. This decision fulfilled the long-time wish of CONMEBOL to see the competition return to South America for the first time since Argentina in 1978, and advocates the recommendation of the FIFA Strategic Study Committee. In view of this decision, the executive felt that further discussions regarding the future rotation of the hosting of the FIFA World Cup™ could provisionally be put on ice.

And --

The executive confirmed the proposal from the Organising Committee for the 2006 FIFA
World Cup Germany™ that the confederations governing football in Africa (CAF) and South
America (CONMEBOL) be permitted to commence their qualifying competitions this autumn,
prior to the Preliminary Draw on 5 December 2003.

It was decided that a proposal from CONMEBOL to increase the number of finalist teams at
the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ from 32 to 36 must first be discussed in detail with the various
parties involved, most notably the hosts of the competition (the German Football
Association), before a final decision can be made at the next FIFA Executive Committee
meeting on 3 May.

LMAO!

CHILE! Or Chile + Argentina, which was being considered before Argentina's crisis. But maybe their economy will recover a bit and we can make it.

36 teams would suck...too watered down with the likes of Slovenia and Saudi Arabia like in the last WC. I think 32 is just fine, if not quite too many. Just say no to 36!

All of the CONMEBOL countries, with maybe the exception of Brasil, have tons of problems to deal with. I would really like a joint bid of Colombia/Venezuela...except both countries are mired in internal/political/terrorism problems.

At least make it up for Colombia losing the WC1986. But there's still time for things to improve somewhat. I can only hope.

you know your history mindsett! 1986 it was a utopic idea from one of the most unreal presidents we ever had, a conservative from amaga, antioquia: BELISARIO BETANCURT!

THANKS for the election of possible countries, and hopefully in 10 yrs from today peace is the rule for my country! the cost still so big, that by 2014 at least 3 to 4 countries must co-host the WC

Nao concordo contigo amigao. Eles podem ganar, como perder. A pressao acima da Selecao, jogando em casa, vai ser incrivel. Por isso eles jogam muitas veces melhor fora do Brasil.

I've been to Selecao games in Brasil and have been amazed at the whistling and cursing against the players if the team isn't playing on all cylinders. They'll remember the stories of the '50 team, many of whom were branded as losers for the rest of their lives despite being great players.

Don't get me wrong, I'd list them as favorites, but not anything close to a sure thing.
