hello ppl i remember reading on these forums about a book discussing how societies and civilizations developed. I found it interesting how u guys were talking about how primitive civilizations developed and how resources shaped what they did. I also remember u guys writing how the author got some sort of award (nobel prize? i'm not sure). I forgot the name of it though, can you guys tell me so i can read it please?? thanx for the helppp.:)

he was also a professor here at UCLA...

I was thinking about trying to join his lab, because he was so inspiring...

A few years ago, I was all into philosophy and his lab would have been perfect..

today I am all about just finishing the damn PhD and getting paid

Its pretty dense... You might get bored... Lord knows I did...

I found a bit more exciting than the average man might, because I study science..

He also quit his proffesor ship from UCLA and became a full time author... I think all he does now is gives speeches talking about his book... And making millions I might add ;) Much better than the 35 - 50K per year being a professor at UCLA.

Did you know that Harvard Professors make no salary... Its the prestige to teach there and that if you are good enough to be a professor at Harvard you can make money another way (company, author etc...)

Diamond also wrote another cool ass book about how animals developed a voice box and how that voice box in apes developed/adapted to be able to make words...

There was a gene that became in activated in apes which controlled mandible jaw size and strength... Once evolution figured out that we could use our minds to get food and not jaws that need to crush wild game, the muscles in the throat area allowed the voice box to evolve to prounce words

ya we had to read that...Chicano Studies freshman year UCSB... I thought it was stupid and not too soon after began to loath the pro-chicano students who were always preachin "viva la Raza"...

Not that i'm against it... At 18, I was totally against the grain kinda kid.. still am against the grain and still act like a kid..

In high school the acting like a gangsta/cholo was my way of being against the grain...but something happened when I set foot on my college campus... maybe it was my drug/weed revolution that definetley had mind altering effects, but also made me see things more penetrating...about myself, about others

I'm getting preachy so I'll stop

For better or for worse, I thought the Raza sh!t was dumb...

And when you talk about the rallying of the general latino, it defeinelty begins in Cali..
