He did nothing in the Parguay game and for most of the Trinidad & Tobago game he could hardly be said to of been on the pitch. I say drop him!
I think Owen would make a good holding midfielder, then Gerrard could drop back to the centre of defence which would allow us to move Rio Ferdinand forward to partner Jamie Carragher up front.

Agree 100000%. The starting xi against Sweden should be as follows:
Gk: James
RB: Sven (why the hell not)
LB: Walcott
CB: Owen
CB: Rooney
DM: Crouch (good touch for a big lad)
CM: Jenas (I wish this was a joke :()
RM: Robinson
LM: Mclaren
CF: Hargreaves
CF: Carrick
Brilliant. Carrick holding up the ball and sending thru-ball after thru-ball to the speedy Hargreaves. Mclaren doing **** all on the left (still better than Downing, though). Robinson running at his man, tripping over the ball and getting carded for diving. Crouch breaking up Sweden's attacks with his incredible reading of the game. Owen and Rooney are both strikers, so they'll know exactly what Larsson and Allback are going to do  Sven getting winded after 5 minutes, gets a ball in the face, wrecks his glasses, subs himself off for Tord Grip. Walcott on the overlap. James in goal. 'Nuff said.
There is no way this cannot work.

There is no way this cannot work. That's a great line up. Rooney should be dropped, he did nothing against Hungary, Jamaica in the friendlies and nothing against Paraguay, and hardly touched the ball against T & T.

I wouldn't drop Rooney for the Sweden game.. you want to get him match fit, and this would be a great opportunity for him to do that, without risking England's chances to the next round.. if I understand you guys right.

Did you see him against Paraguay? he was non-exsistant!

not too be too harsh on you, mate.
but rooney wasn't in the Paraguay game, and was substituted on the T&T game well into the 2nd half (in and around the 60th minute).
and since T&T were playing for tie, they instantly moved their defenders to double-up on rooney in the middle. keeping owen and rooney up front generates either double-teaming both (which leaves the holding midfielder open), or gambling. and the weak swedish defence can't chance either.

We should keep Crouch up top and David James along side him.

good stuff, haha. :DDidn't you see The Paraguay match? Rooney was no where to be seen on the pitch? if he can't turn up for the opening game of a world cup whats the point playing him at all.

its sad to say, but I don't think Owen turned up either!Owen and Rooney don't quite have the natural gifted talents of Emile Heskey and Danny Mills. If we played them two upfront....
