Hi there, I've got an "official" US soccer shirt (blue). And it's 100% polyester, it's been more than 15 years since I played college sports but we had technical jersey's back then.
1 - Are these the real kit? I doubt it so why do they say they are?
2 - If these are the real kit then those poor players
3 - If they're not the real kit then how do we buy the real stuff?
I'm not happy with mine I'm afraid.

The player-issue kit is not the same as the "official" or "authentic" kit. The player-issue shirts have lighter construction and a more trim cut; the Nike "swoosh" and USA badge are heat transfers instead of being embroidered; and there are several differences in details such as the collar, sleeves, etc.
I don't know of any retailer selling the player-issue shirts. I doubt you'd be happy with the player-issue shirts though as the lighter construction and heat transfers makes them seem rather flimsy and cheap to the average consumer.

Plus, the player issue shirts are only meant to last about 45 minutes of play. It was hard to tell but it actually looked like one of the brazil shirts was almost ready to fall apart near the bottom yesterday.

What's the difference between the replica, and the "supporter's jersey"? Is the supporter's jersey just a plain polyester without any details?

No. My size is a XL, which is fine since I am a large. The price tag is too high - I would recommend a t-shirt replica if they sell one. Plus, it seems that the replica jersey holds onto any sweat/stink. I've washed my shirt with a ton of detergent etc etc etc and can't get rid of it. It was made in Morocco  ... My 2003 Man U nike jersey replica is 100 times better than this shirt in terms of wear..

Tshirt replicas are made out of cotton, right? When I was in Europe, you'd see cheap versions of all the club jerseys for 10-20 euros, but they were still polyester and cool looking. That's what I want.

the "supporters jersey" is made of a different material than the "Nike DriSphere. (ironically, enough it's the same material used on the "dont tread" jersey. The badge is smaller, there's no gold on the sleves, and a difference on the back of the collar on the blue one.

I would disagree, the DOTM is dri-sphere, or so the tag said- the supporters is dri-fit mesh, definitely lighter than DOTM.
I got the away supporters jersey because I like that the stripe goes all the way across the chest without the gap for the number; I find that it is lighter but still very comfortable. Yes the patch is smaller but fine to me, and I find the collar is much less cumbersome on the away supporters than the replica.
For the homes, I think the replica looks tons better than the supporters.

hmm, I didnt take the time to compare the home jersey and the DTOM jersey together. I'll have to do that next time I go back to the local soccer shop... although I probably wont get a chance seeing as though the DTOM jersey was the last USA shirt of any kind left in the store (and there was only one).

personally I think the authentic home shirt is higher quality than the DOTM shirt.
My take on the DOTM is that it was rushed out to squeeze a few more $$ out of the hardcore fans. Heavy fabric, all the graphics screened on, etc...
Also, I paid the same amount for my auth. home with printing as I did for the DOTM w/o printing.

I agree. I'm actually guessing if we got the real kit it would be much higher quaity. This stuff stinks.
My college gear was high tech and high wicking and built to last. I was expecting something more along those lines or along the lines of NFL Starters jerseys.
This is the last US soccer shirt I buy which isn't a replica or 100% cotton.
I do think the word "authentic" is a lie.
What is does DOTM mean?

DOTM=Don't Tread on Me. I agree with jammybastard the DOTM is not near as performance oriented as the replicas.

It's Sphere Dry 100% polyester and Dri-FIT 100% polyester mesh on the replica jersey, not regular polyester. The training jerseys that the players wore in practice have the exact same fabric so I doubt that it's really that low quality. Sphere and Dri-Fit are two of the main Nike fabric technologies.
