To be honest, who cares about his charity work. He's a footballer, he has loads of free time on his hands and, because of who he is, will get asked to do a lot of charity work. If I got paid thousands of pounds a day and had free afternoons all week, I would go along too. It wouldn't make me a saint, it would just mean that I'm not a complete heartless bastard.
The point is though that the honours system is an utter joke. It's an excuse for minor celebritites and complete nobodies to get their picture taken at Buckingham Palace so that the royal family can pretend that they're in touch with the real people, like anyone except BBC arse-lickers and Chelsea Pensioners gives a ******** anyway.
An MBE is basically worth nothing (Ferguson is just filling up the 'Scottish quota' for this year), unless you sell it on E-Bay maybe. That's what I'd do.
