View Full Version : Should FIFA just go ahead and call every handball in the box?

It seems there's so much controversy about handballs in the box as 80% of the time, those handballs aren't called because they're "unintentional", which causes the ref lots of problems figuring out what the defender inteded to do with his hand.

Do you think that just calling every one of those would solve controversy? Or maybe giving an indirect free kick for handballs rather than pks?

Daft idea. Either the result would be players deliberately blasting balls at players arms in order to get pks or people would be deliberately handling in the box because they knew it would only result in an ifk.

The use of the arm usually denies a goal scoring opportunity, intentional or not. Indirect freekick for all and punish those clearly abusing the rule with a straight red.

I would actually keep the rule the same. I guess I havn't seen that much controversy in calls in the box. I don't think an intentional/ unintentional hand ball is any different than a controversial tackle/foul in the box.

It's been said that if you don't make a single handling call for the rest of your life, you'll be at least 90% correct.

Every handball that is blocking a goal or a cross. No matter if it is on purpose or not. We have seen several incidents this WC. Especially France-Switzerland where one of Henry's shots where blocked by a Swiss arm from going into goal.

I'm in favour of keeping the handball rules as they are. The cure may end up giving more problems than what we have now.
