What the flip is up with no Trezeguet at all in the 1st game and not today until the freaking 91st minute???? The man is a beast and a great goal-scorer. What is wrong with Domenech???

I must say I was very frustrated watching the France team today; they are one of the teams I really enjoy watching play: A very attractive style of football when things are going well.

The manager appears to have lost the plot.

The manager appears to have lost the plot.

Yep. There manager lives in something of an alternate universe and he has loyalty to certain players he shouldn't have. I haven't seen the game yet, but the sub choices and especially their timing today was truly bizarre.

That said, I think Dom. thinks Trez. is not effective with Henry, which I think is not a baseless assumption. However, Louis Saha HAS AND DOES play well with him. Also, I think Dom. has some kind of loyalty to Viera that is perhaps misplaced based on his recent form. He also thinks that sticking to his formation will "develop chemistry."

Well Domenech is clearly showing that he has no sense....
If you're not gonna start Trezeguet, I believe he at least deserves 20-30mins of play time.

But again Domenech has no clue what he's doing...he's playing a 4-5-1, that obviously doesn't work well for Henry....he starts Wiltord, who definetly isn't doing anything, infront of Trez, Ribbery, & Saha.....
So I mean do you really expect anything better from this dreadful man?

I think, France should style their team after their gold medal dynamite Olympic team of 1984 or even the Platini teams. Maybe there should be a shake up in the whole FFF.

Hey, all you damned French people. I am cursing you not because I hate you, but because I admire you and this nonsense with the national team is giving me gas pains. The 1998 team was the best and most inspiring I've ever seen and I still admire all those class of 98 players, plus some of the new breed, Henry in particular. I thought 2002 was simply an aberration b/c Zidane was hurt, but ********ing here we go again. Que pasa, mes freres? Why? Pourquoi?

I never win betting pools but I'm doing pretty good right now in a $1000 pool (second!), but it's all going to fall apart b/c I have France finishing second.

So one of you France boosters, please, tell me it's going to be alright. Hold me. Ruffle my hair. Let me know les Bleus will bounce back. Channel the spirit of de Gaulle and all that.

LOL :D great post.

as for your betting pool, you have france finishing second in the WC (which anyone of us would have told you is impossible) or the group? W/ respect to the group, there is a decent chance provided we get our act together and score a hatful of goals against togo and don't concede any. So pray with us and hopefully if all goes well, we'll get dibs on that cash reward yea? ;)

LoL funny post.
I hope you meant you have France finishing 2nd in the group, and not in the WC, LoL!!

Apparently, France will play good this comming game because Zidane is out due to suspension. Having Zidane and Henry on the pitch at the same time doesn't suit Henry's style of play. That's what I read somewhere. If someone knows more about this, could you clarify?

I think it was something along the lines of Henry doesn't like the way Zidane gets the ball to him or something like that..

then forget Henry- hell, Trez scores a goal every 2 times he's on the pitch,
Make some chemistry around him NOT Mr. Offside (ie Henry)

Okay, I take complete credit for France's beautiful run. Apparently Domenech read my post (see above) to the French team in the locker room before the Togo game, and they've been a juggernaut ever since.

All kidding aside, I am so touched by the French performance. Zizou is a lion among men and this team is capturing the hearts of all the world. And again, I am not French and have no particular affection or dislike for the country, I just love this team and always have. I especially liked how at the end of the Brazil game, the coaches and staff waited by the field exit, before the players left, and slapped hands with each player as they left the field. There is a togetherness and respect there that is inspiring. As I mentioned above, I'm in a betting pool and bet on Portugal to win the whole thing, but my heart is with France.

Trezeguet can keep his backside on the bench for the rest of the tourny if we play like we have the last 2 matches. Nigel, how is your bet looking. I'm betting that some of you friends are starting to get nervous. Don't spend that 1000 bucks all in 1 place.

Ach, the best I can do, if everything goes my way, is second. Still some good money there. I picked a Portugal/France final, but France screwed it up by finishing second in their group.

There was a thread elsewhere with power rankings for all the teams (this was before the Cup), I actually just used that and guessed at scores. It's worked pretty well so far.

A pros pros betting. You owe me a beer sl7vk. Alexander Frei was sold for less than 10 mio Euro to Borussia Dortmund. Actually it was something like 4 mio Euro. So, what kind of beer can you offer? :-)

How does a Wasatch Polygamy Porter sound? Of course I'll have to drink it by default because you are unable to attend. But if you ever do meander into Utah, I'll do better then a beer for you.

Anywho, I heard the fee was 6 mil, which still seems a bit steep considering the way he's fallen to pieces the last 13 months.

"Wasatch Polygamy Porter" sounds like a mean infection, but well....if you drink that stuff, I should recover within a couple of days at least. ;-)

Was in Utah some years ago (Lake Powell IIRC). Anyway, if we meet somewhere sometime, I'll remember you. *ggg*
