i know most of you don't have this problem, but i could appreciate any kind of pointers here. i have a very frugal mum, and she doesnt want me spending a lot on boots. i'd really like to get a nice pair of high quality boots. i have a good job, so me making money is not an issue, and boots last me about 1 year, give or take a month (playing year round). how do i go about persuading my mum to let me buy some good boots. thanks a lot

This what I tell people when they come in the shop where I work:
Your boots are your most vital peice of equipment, if your playing at anything near a high level of play you need to have a quality pair of boots that fit well. That doesn't mean you have to spend $200.00 but you should be lookingg to at least spend around $100.00. The lower quality of the boot the less durability you will gt out of it because the production quality is lower and materials used to make it are cheap and low quality. The nicer the boot the better the features will be and if there is a worry about them coming apart it really is a rare thing and the company will replace them if they are defective.
Not only is it an issue of materials being better but comfort levels tend to be higher when your boot is better because they are designed to fit the foot better, upper will shape better to your foot, and foot to ground comfort is improved because of better chusioning systems. Your feet will be in better shape wearing a higher quality product as a result.

Well if it is your money then I dont see a problem.
Tell her your pretty informed on the topic of boots and that you know what ur getting for the price. Plus throw in there that you hhave been looknig around and you found a good deal; so she doesnt think your just buying the first thing you saw.

When I lived at home most of my boots got bought for me by my club (:D), but my mum used to go apeshit about me buying expensive trainers (Tn's were like girlfriends - I liked to have as many as possible). Here's what I did.
1. Go on about how I needed a new pair of trainers - example: "Man, my trainers are killing me. I have really bad blisters. I need a new pair".
2. Make it belligerantly obvious that I was going out to LOOK FOR (not buy) a new pair of trainers - example: "I'm going to go shopping for some trainers, and see what bargains I can find". The best thing you can do for this is to make sure that your mum thinks that you will definitely come back with a pair of trainers.
3. Return without a pair of trainers and say that "I couldn't find anything I liked/nothing was suitable". This way your mum will start to trust you, because she thinks that you don't rush into making decisions when buying trainers.
4. Do that once more, and the third time come back with a pair of trainers. Give it the big "I am", baffling her with how comfortable/good looking/great value they were. She will be quiet, trust me.
Now replace the word "trainers" with "football boots", and there shouldn't be a problem!

TNs awww, i have a lovely pair of mint green TNs they are very nice! Anyhow just tell her that if you get an expensive pair of boots now then they will last you for the season, you will look after them and take care of them so you make sure that they DO last you for a whole season. Tell her if you buy a cheap pair they might have to be replaced half way through. Oh and this is a girlie tip, go and buy them and tell her they didnt cost as much as they actually did!! :D

When I had one pair of Vapors and wanted more boots, I just complained about the state of them. I also showed my dad a picture of a BS member's huge collection of boots, and he soon gave in. He could also see that I knew quite a bit about footy boots.
Also give them the lecture that you are spending your own money on good things like football boots, not Pokemon cards and alcohol!:p

Tell me about it, people at school get a lot of pocket money to spend on stuff, including their lunch for school....If I was them, I would just ask other people for an apple(lol) and some of their lunch they don't want, and then save all my money.
Anyways, tell us how it works out mate.

lol RW, you sly thing, you :p btw hburygunners, i completely misread your first post. YOU'RE MAKING MONEY YOURSELF!? then it'll be a piece of cake. i mean if you have the money it's your choice right? and if you can't reason with her, just buy the boots and what she won't know won't hurt her, right?

my parents only bought one expensive pair of boots for me- the aluminum/red nike azt90 II's and I told them I'd love them forever after they got them haha. they said I deserved them because of my talent and hard work.
boots are an investment. if you get the $30 crap boots, they're going to fall apart and be uncomfortable in no time. so you'll need a new pair. and it'll be a cycle of this. with the amount you spend on replacements, you might as well have bought the expensive boots that will last a lot longer(barring improper care taking and manufacturing problems)

See, thats what i don't get. If its your money then i think you should be able to buy what you want with it. I mean they are football boots its not like you are buying crack cocaine now is it? although football boots can be just as addictive! hahahaha!!

You know what every1 just wants to say....'How would you know?!' But on a serious note, that is exactly what I was thinking...there are worse things to spend your money on.
