according to foxsoccer.com the bruce has said that john isn't ready to start and "I don't think John has felt comfortable over the last week or two."
is there something going on here other than being out of shape? i woulda thought he would been ok by now.

um....that doesnt help...you just only repeated what the first guy said...whats wrong with him? Some weird strange nagging muscle in his legs? Did hear some bad news and he has not been able to focus? Man, he could be the difference in game 3 but whats happening??

He's not in shape, he's not fit and he's probably got some nagging injury. In other words, same ol' JOB. We'll need to win without him.

When someone actually does know what's wrong with JOB, would you mind sending me an email? Otherwise, I'll have to wade through 200-300 posts speculating on what might be wrong.
One thing (of many) that the Italy game demonstrated, you want to start the game with 11 players who can go for the full 90 minutes. Cards, injuries and tactics can all 'force' your hand.
Anyway, back to JOB, JOB threads were the lifeblood of BS just six short weeks ago. Is 'JOB Redux' really how we want to spend our time this week?

If this means that Reyna and Olsen start in midfield together I might throw up.

well, yes, if your best field player is mysteriously unable to play when you need him the most.

He strained his back in training leading up to the Czech game (can't remember where I heard that but I have a distinct recollection of hearing it). Bruce won't start him for fear of giving up one of his subs. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as a second half sub though.

Mysteriously? How do you define mysteriously? In the context of today's specific ailment or in the context of the last four years?
I'll let someone else take issue with your other assumptions.

today's ailment. you're always free not to discuss if it doesn't meet your standard.

I think I heard that somewhere too.
If we learned anything from the Italy game, its that we need guys that can play 90 minutes... If we're desperate for a goal, bring him on...

I am very interested in hearing about O'brien.

Man is the accident prone. I hope he gets it together because we can definitely use him. I think we can beat Ghana without him, but I would like to see him play. If we had put him in against Italy, judging by that game, he would have had a career ending injury or paralysis.

His achilles was bothering him at some point, dunno if that's still a problem.

spontaneous combustion? his injuries get worse the less he plays. if the guy's unable to play, of all the bruce criticism, his decision to bring job in lieu of a healthy body, might be the most justified.
let him rest and heal in one of those michael jackson oxygen chambers...unleash him vs. brazil.
i dont think JOB would be usefull vs. Ghana anyway. We're gonna need Oslen's dir'tay play against essien/appiah in the middle

Bruce said in his press conference before Italy that JOB's "setback" was not related to a pre-existing injury, and specifically ruled out the achilles and groin issues. (Bruce was pretty funny and quipped that he would need a skeleton, with musculature, to funny explain Johnny's health problems.) I learned from somewhere else that the setback related to his back.
