I don't see a whole lotta young strikers bursting into the scene and this may be a problem in the future.

grax, benzema, menez, gigliotti, gakpé, maurice belay, gouffran, dia, balde

there are a few young talents in the french leagues, some of them will eventually make it in the coming years, but there's no hurry till 2010 as we still have cissé, henry, trezeguet and anelka.

With Domenech in charge we won't see Trezeguet  that much anymore: it will be Henry + Cissé period.

well, trezeguet has never blown my dress up all that high... but that's just a question of style, i love to see the ball going to the spaces instead of the feet, and for things to move...

faut que ça bouge!

He's been my favourite player in this WC for his attitude on and outside the pitch.

The same for me. Thuram has class, style, stamina, strength and definitely deserves his status as a world champion. He was the one on the pitch who deserved to be world champion once again.

Arsene Wenger is likely to be frances next coach after 2008 because thats when his contract finishes at Arsenal but lets hope he does a Fergie and stay on with Arsenal

I hope he never leaves arsenal. one of the main reasons I have loved arsenal is because of this mans attacking gameplans

Excuse me, am I in an Arsenal forum?

Of course we, the NT supporters, don't want Wenger to stay on with Arsenal. He should come out someday and coach The Blues.

I just realized that we have WAY to many defensive-mids Mavuba, Vieira, L.Diarra, A.Diarra, Diaby, Toulalan. if all 6 of them are preforming well come 2008 we wont even have room for all of them in the roster let alone the starting 11. and i must say i watched a some video footage of karim benzema on UEFA action and i must say guignol has a point he can be the next best thing in blue by 2010!

After so much of the old guard leaving, i think Thierry Henry will show his Arsenal form for the NT, because when when Henry plays for Arsenal he likes the free role and drifts to the right and makes them accuarte runs but when the likes of Zidane play in the same team as you it limits what you can do on the pitch.

France's future is bright.
We got Malouda, Ribery, Diarra, etc..

And Giuly will join in next four years.

Henry , Saha, and Cisse will fit in form.

France should not worry about anything except Zidane's absence.

Although this tournament is still going on, and France could well still qualify for the the 16 - and perhaps go further with luck and so forth - it is clear that subsequent will not - and probably should not - feature a good number of the players on the current squad.

For the European qualifiers and such, when I think France needs a new coach and a new injection of players. And they should stick with them, even if things go poorly in qualifiers.

Firstly, it seems to me that Domenech should go. We know Zidane is retiring. Wiltord, Thuram, and Makelele have also are likely playing some of their last games for France. But who else will be going? Dhirasoo seems a likely candidate. Barthez as well.

But who to bring in? A lot of the controversy in the current tournament revolves around the non-inclusion of players - like Anelka and Giuly - who aren't exactly new or young. France does have a lot of promising young players - however, most seem to be defenders and midfielders. For example, Lasana Diarra at Chelsea, Matthieu Flamini at Arsenal, Francois Clerc at Lyon, maybe Ben Arfa or Benzema at OL as well. I don't know the French league that well, but it strikes me that the France is deeper at the back and in midfield than upfront, with a cursory knowledge of young players outside the team. Then again, Cisse is still quite young - but his injuries raise serious concerns. Maybe Henry will still be in great shape. I think he might be. But he isn't going to want to keep playing for a side coached like this one.

Anyway, I'd be interested in the thoughts on these questions from people who are closer observers of French football than I have been.

People will later claim that he's not really French. That France gave him a convenient passport after bringing him from Brittany...
