Starting in 1989...

What's the best result the US has acheived in international play? Vote for TWO - with your first choice being one of the matches that starts with "1st" and your second choice being a match that starts with "2nd".

I don't think your poll worked right...

Kinda interesting that people are honing in on the three World Cup games where we got a result against a good team. I think that's right (and in the same Portugal, Mexico, Italy order too), but am surprised there are so few votes for the other big wins.

Personally I think yesterday was our best game of the past 50 years.

For our team to get a draw against the Italians being a man down is a tremendous achievement.

Re soccernethost:

I was sorely tempted to be contrarian and vote for Brasil just for that reason. But in the end it would be intellectually dishonest; no matter how you define "best", a non-WC game just can't compare.

Also I might have made a case for the 1989 T&T game, but the "WCQ friendly" confused me so it didn't dawn on me which game it was talking about. :) It's hard to know how far behind we'd be now had we not qualified in 1990 -- maybe not far behind at all, or maybe everything would be different.
