The biases in month of birth for our youth teams are a familiar topic on here. Thanks to FIFA's excel file it's easy for me to track everyone by month of birth. Note: late changes are not included such as Berhalter for Gibbs (Albright for Hejduk is though).

Outfield players only (All Teams):
January - 65
February - 59
March - 50
April - 51
May - 59
June - 46
July - 49
August - 60
September - 54
October - 53
November - 48
December - 46

1st quarter - 174
2nd quarter - 156
3rd quarter - 163
4th quarter - 147

Goalkeepers:
January - 9
February - 7
March - 7
April - 10
May - 6
June - 10
July - 9
August - 7
September - 6
October - 9
November - 6
December - 10

1st quarter - 23
2nd quarter - 26
3rd quarter - 22
4th quarter - 25

The U.S.A. team Outfielders:

January - 2
February - 3
March - 3
April - 0
May - 7
June - 1
July - 1
August - 2
September - 0
October - 0
November - 0
December - 1

1st quarter - 8
2nd quarter - 8
3rd quarter - 3
4th quarter - 1

Switching Berhalter out for Gibbs takes one from the 1st quarter and adds one to the 3rd quarter.

Make what you will of this info. The discrepancy between the 2nd quarter and the 4th quarter in the overall numbers virtually disappears when you remove the USA from the equation.

This has been discussed a little bit here ...

In particular, note that the Fifa cutoff didn't move from July 31 to Dec 31 until 1997, which means several of our older players should be re-classified, although the conclusions don't really change. (This might affect the general numbers, too, esp. w/r/t keepers.)
