Well it has begun (http://www.usopencup.com/2005bracket/index_E.html), although it will not begin for us for a little while (Aug 2). There are 4 MLS teams who have to prove themselves in the 3rd round (Chivass, RSL, The Wizzers, and the Crew) and the rest of the 8 MLS teams drop in the 4th. As there is 8 spots and 8 MLS teams looks like each would get their own seed in the 4th round to play a 3rd round winner. We are the 6th team listed, if thats how it ends up seedwise, as shown, then we will play the winners of the Rochester Rhinos-(NH Phantoms/Milford Inter) game July 12. Which would be nice to not have to face a MLS team to begin with. I hope the new regime plays this to win it, it is ours and hardware is hardware. :D

But they try to keep the open cup regional eraly on, so I just don't see us playing New York's best team.

This will be an interesting test, because FY never took the LHUSOC very seriously when he was an Evil Smurf. I wonder if Alexi has told him that this Cup does have meaning here.

One thing here, and one thing only - let's please come out and support this by buying tickets and showing up. The Champ's League and Open Cup matches should draw more than a regular season MLS game, but they don't, which is amazing if we all consider ourselves true supporters. Don't care if they're Wednesday night games or not, no excuse.

interesting dilemma here for frank the tank. on the one hand he could approach the open cup as a bright spot in a rather drab season. a repeat in the open cup could mitigate the disappointment of missing the play-offs, but distracting the team from gaining maximum points and getting in to the post season.

i think i'd prefer a nice title defense in the open cup.

They didn't even give us the oppurtunity. Dallas Roma just kicked their asses in penalty kicks 4-2. Congratulations Chivas, you just allowed the biggest upset in US Open Cup history.

funny stuff. Also a PDL team beat the Sounders for an all Dynamo battle.

So our game will be Aug 2nd, our previous game being July 22nd (@Col), and the next one being the all star game 3 days later (5th), then our next full team game Aug 9th (@Hou).

Id expect/hope for a full team, but wouldnt be be shocked to be minus Landon and Chris.

Is the G's vs. Roma game supposed to be a home game for Roma? I sure hope so, i'll get to see my G's again!

I was actually looking forward to another encounter with Chivas, but alas, we get to play a supposed 'easier' team. We need to bring our A game for this one or else we'll also be humiliated like Chivas.

You know what they say:

Despite a shoddy season, the chances that the locationally-challenged Rome Dallas team beats us are slim to none.
