Jorge Larrionda from Uruguay. He did Angola-Portugal.

He's a good referee. He's refereed us in the World Cup Qualifier in Kansas City in 2001 against Costa Rica and also refereed our match against Turkey in the 2003 Confederations Cup.

Larrionda will have his hands full today. The USA will be playing desperately, and the Italians will have their judges near the field to judge dives for degree of difficulty. Hopefully, Larrionda will be able to judge what is a legitimate foul.

After watching the first half, I wanted to say a few things:
(1) The US is playing with the despiration and intensity mentioned above; he does have his hands full.
(2) Has he ever read the "trifling and doubtful" clause?
(3) Sending Mastroieni off was a disgraceful decision.
OK. Those are my thoughts.
Are further thoughts or comments?

Larrionda is a joke.
The red on Mastroeni was a simple yellow thru-out this tournament.
And to "even" things up he shows the red.
A disgrace.

Stupid foul by Mastroeni, but a pretty harsh red nonetheless.
The Italian Diving Team is living up to its reputation.

Just terrible officiating.

Revised comment.
Larrionda has to be by far the worst official I have seen. I have seen grade school refs with more of a clue.
Horrifying performance.

Yikes this is truly awful, 52nd minute, three reds and complete loss of control. Mayhem ensuing. F-minus for Larrionda.

The yellow to Pope was totally wrong too. It was a shirt pull on Italy who pulled Pope down on top of him. The ref saw nothing, took a wild guess, and was totally wrong.
Two things I can't abide in refs....bias (not a problem here I don't think) and wild guesses on things with a big impact like cards.
The red to Pablo was a make up call that didn't need to be made because De Rossi's red was right. All tackles like Pablo's have been yellow in this tournament and for the last several years. If Pablo's cleats were up another 6 inches, then it'd be reasonable.
This is a hard game to ref, in part due to lots of Italian diving, but even so, quite horrible and it's only half time.

Another wild guess on the Pope 2nd yellow. Just assumed what happened. And then another because someone fell over clutching their leg.
This should be the last game this ref ever gets at any level....shambolic, disgusting.

Have to say it was a good offside call by the nearside AR on the dis-allowed Beasley goal, though.

This guy was the best man on the field tonight but I can see why the US fans donīt want to realize that.

I don't see why we should be. His decisions turned a game that we very well could have won 11 on 11, and especially 11 on 10 because I don't think anyone is questioning the red on De Rossi, completely on its head. It really ruined a golden opportunity to pull off the upset and blow the group wide open. Sure, a point is great, but it doesn't leave us with our destiny completely in our hands, which is something you always want.
