What do you think will be the lineup for both teams in this match? If I was the coach, I'd definitely roll the team and make the subs start, so as to rest the others. Facing Mexico or Portugal (favorites for the moment in group D) does not make that much difference, specially that we may not know who will be 1st/2nd at that time.

With both teams already advancing to the next round, is there a big incentive for either team to face/not face Portugal or Mexico?

The NED-ARG lineups will be dictated by one of two schools of thought:
1. Win the group. Keep the momentum going. To hell with who we'll face between MEX & POR.
2. Rest the injured and those with yellow cards. To hell with who we'll face between MEX & POR.

NED Yellow Cards:
van Bronckhorst
Heitinga
Robben
Van Bommel
Mathijsen
Boulahrouz (sp?)

ARG Yellow Cards:
Crespo
Heinze
Saviola
Lucho

I guess it might be a factor. I thought our group would be finished before group D, but now looking at the schedulle I see that they play the early match, before we do. So, we will know who won group D, and a cynical coach might try to play for a result.

I doubt it though, I think both teams will be careful and not show everything, but they will try to win. You want to go into the second round on a roll, and at any rate, Portugal and Mexico are not that far apart from each other in talent, it is not like we'd be facing Brazil in the second round.

And as far as cards, I think they start back from zero for the second round. But does having one in the last match put a player out of the second round match?

I think it will just be a luxury friendly, to try new things and test players. Hopefully we can meet Holland again in the final, with everything at stake.

With that thigh pull, I think Lucho will be rested.

With Heinze just coming back from injury, I can see Pekerman resting him too.

I would hate to see both Crespo and Saviola play in a relatively meaningless match, get carded, & lose one or both in the next round vs. MEX or POR.

I can see Tevez, Cruz, or even Cufre start instead of Crespo and/or Saviola.

They must also look beyond R16. England or Germany is likely to play against them in the QF.

Poor Crespo, he got a yellow for scoring an onside goal.

The yellow cards wll be erased and will not count for the second round. They will start with a clean record.

It could be important for Holland to give van der Vaart some playing time to regain his rythm. That might be important because we don't have many worldclass midfielders.

But damn, Argentina is good! Well, I hope it will be a good game for both sides.

Poor Crespo, he got a yellow for scoring an onside goal.

Hopefully the string of having valid goals disallowed will stop at two for Argentina.

Crespo really got f-ed on that one.

Argentina deserves those 2 goals, but at least have mercy on the Serbs. 6 goals is already enough, those 6 goals have already established Argentina's position in the tournament, no need to rue about those 2 goals. Crespo is important to Argentina, but he won't be so desvastating, as Argentina have full talents ready to cover for him should he sit out some game.

Holland should play to get Mexico, put Robben in if necessary, b/c they start clean after the group. Argentina is more powerful, let them take care of Portugal. I don't believe Argentina is afraid of Portugal anyways.

Facing Mexico or Portugal is not a big deal to me. But i want Argentina to finish 1st in the group, because doing this we are unlikly to face Brazil or England before the final and Germany might still finish 2nd in their group, if it happens then we won't meet any big team before the semis.

Can anyone tell me where I can get to see how the draw progresses? I already know who will play who in the second round but after that, I'm lost. Any where online I can see how teams will progess?

Exactly...in my opinion it would be worth risking yellow cards for everyone already with one in order to avoid Brazil's side of the bracket.

Wow it's going to be an interesting game. I don't think for a second that both teams are going to speculate with a tie, especially Holland, whoever gets second place here gets to face in later rounds England and possibly Brazil, too early for my taste. Holland- Argentina is a completely different game and I don't even take int account what argentina did yesterday, that cannot be in the head of the players, I hope they already came down to earth. They have to play with the same intensity because the dutch are an excellent team and contenders for the final. It's a game by game situation and both argentina and holland have won their games, it's going to be very even but of course I hope I'm wrong and Argentina wins. ;)

Spot on. I could see Pekerman making many changes to the line-up. The best way imho to fight off the over confidence of yesterday would be to start players that were not on the field and still have something to prove. I have no doubts that Holland can take us out but I know (hope) we'll pull through. This game I think will be very physical because of the past and all the media hype. Hopefully everyone comes out unhurt on both sides.

I think resting Robben and van Bommel would be a good idea. They have good replacements in van der Vaart and perhaps Kuyt. More importantly, van Bronckhorst and Heitinga need to be rested as I think they are our top two defenders.

I am assuming Argentina will rest a few of their carded players also. As for the Portugal/Mexico issue, I'm pretty sure van Basten would not be too fussed as neither team has firmly broken away as the top team in group D. It's pointless considering who we might play in the quarters. Every team who makes the quarter finals will be a class act.

Holland will most likely keep all yellow carded players on the bench. May also rest Cocu, Sar and Ruud. Ie. Holland will play the B team.

Stekelenburg
Jaliens - Ooijer - Heitinga (when fit) - De Cler
Landzaat - Maduro - Van der Vaart
Persie - Kuijt - Babel

2 possible Argentina B team:

3-4-3 o 3-5-2
Franco
Burdisso - Colo - Milito
Scaloni o Cufre - Cambiasso o Mascherano - Sorin
Aimar
Tevez o Palacio - Cruz - Messi (ataque o mediocampo)

4-4-2 o 4-3-3
Cufre o Burdisso - Colo - Milito - Sorin
Scaloni - Cambiasso o Mascherano o Lucho
Aimar
Tevez o Palacio - Cruz - Messi (ataque o mediocampo)

I'm not sure who to put on the left without Sorin. Maybe, Milito with 2 centre backs and Scaloni or Cufre pushing forward on the right. Scaloni as a wingback in a 3 CB formation and possibly center/holding mid (scarily) in a 4 back defence.

Howeverm, don't count on seeing these formations in the next month.
