Deserved win for Portugal--congratulations to them for getting to the second round! They played the full 90 minutes today after Angola had seemingly lulled them to sleep during stretches of their first match. Iran also looked better for the full 90 today than they did against Mexico (nice first half--nothing in the second). Deco gets my vote for MOTM for breaking the deadlock.

Control and patience sends us to the knockout round.
Excellent team performance. Iran as a whole was just relatively weak, despite some moments when they tried to capitalize on cheeky counter-attacks.
In contrast from the first game for Portugal: The Exhibition Was Better Than the Result

another case of the smaller team just sitting there with everyone behind the ball for almost the whole match and hoping to get a draw. to be expected, but a bit dull.

Portugal had two very weak opponents so far. We'll have to wait until 1/8 to really know what Portugals form is. They haven't been impressive, but have just enough to qualify with ease.
They're known to be slow starters. We'll be clicking in the rd. of 16. It was only 2-0, but we played Iran off the pitch today.
And from the Iranian fan's talk before the tourny started i was expecting big things from Karimi, but I just don't see what all the hype was about. I thought he looked terrible in both games.
And Aveir... you're right, the exhibition was better then the result.

Good win, but seemed very suspect in attack until Deco scored.
Very ugly match, very irritating Cristiano Ronaldo, nice goal by Deco, inconsistent ref (but seemed not to prefer any side... if any than the iranian...am surprised they finished with 11 players). Not much to say about Portugal after two matches. Might stand a chance with Holland, not with Argentina. Definitely the weakest group in this world cup.

And here's hoping we see Boa Morte start against Mexico.

I found it to be a boring match; better than last night's Mex-Ang, but it was still hard to watch at times. Though Portugal made more chances and eventually capitalised on them, Iran certainly didn't help themselves when they squandered golden opportunities to get back in the game.

France, Togo, Switzerland and S. Korea are stronger?
Your opinion is worthless.

Deco my choise to be MVP,
Ronaldo somehow wins it.
Deco though, should have been MVP, not just for the amazing goal, but for his work-ethic today. He kept running, never gave up even under hard tackles, passed well, came back well, was just unbelievably good today.
My line-up for the Mexico game:
------------Quim------
Ferreira-Costa-Meira-Valente
-------Tiago-Petit----------
Simao-----Viana-----B. Morte
--------Nuno Gomes----------
No need to play Ronaldo, Pauleta, and risk yellow cards. Valente I'm not concerned about since I'd rather see Caneira on the left anyway, I still prefer him.
Still a quality team, and as much as I love Angola, I don't think we should take a big risk considering we are playing either Holland or Argentina...

Even the commentator was surprised at Karimi's performance. Karimi was pretty much injured. He was only in the game to keep our team in high spirits. Congrats to Portugal.
Had Karimi been fit, I think the result migbht have been somewhat different. Anyways goodjob Portugal.
Christiano Ronaldo showed some good sportsmanship at th e end of the game.

I thought it was a good match, got boring in the 50's though when Iran just wanted to keep bouncing the ball in defence, without any creativity, but oh well.

Or does that rule (if it exists) only count for players with only one card?

I think that Portugal wholeheartedly dominated this match from start to finish. Iran really never did stand much of a chance against Portugal. Portugal's superior midfield play and clever footwork ensured that they toyed with Iran until it was ready to pounce and kill the match. I must say that I am quite disappointed with the Iranian side, because I really did expect more over the course of the two matches played. From the start of the second half against Mexico to the end of the match against Portugal, Iran really has been disappointing. Perhaps the knocks to key players like Karimi and Daei (sp?) did them in in the end. Nonetheless, keep your heads up, guys - you do have an impressive squad and will without a doubt be back in 2010 in South Africa. Cheers, and Adeus! :)

Our main creativity come from Karimi. Unfortunately he was injured from the start of th match. Good performance by Mahdavikia.

One man isn't going to change the whole game.
And you don't put in players for "high spirits."
Bad tactical mistake by Ivankovic, who I'm happy to see going home after the comments he made yesterday, attempting to unsettle our motivation.
