Hey, all. Arsenal.com is now offering the 05/06 Season Review DVD through the official store for £17.99. It's Region Zero (0), so it's not bound by DVD player region coding, but I'm betting it's in PAL video format, which screws over most North American fans. Those of us who have region-free players that will convert formats can buy it, but it's nearly $50 US after shipping.
I've got an e-mail into the club shop to find out if they're going to license it out for North American supporters, as they have the past 3 seasons. As soon as I get a response, I'll let everyone know.
For the life of me, I don't understand why there isn't a graduated scale for shipping costs from the official store. It's £10.00 for orders under £20 and £18.00 for orders over £20. That's ridiculous. It does NOT cost the shop as much as they're charging for the item to ship outside of Europe.

Why would you want to have a DVD to remind yourself of last season?

Thanks for checking that out. I'll be interested to know what you find out.
Does anyone know where you can get the 02-03 season review in North American format? I won't watch the last 5-6 ames, but that is a hole in my collection I would like to fill.

SWEET! Much better deal and it ships Monday. I'm still interested in seeing if they convert it to NTSC for North America. I wish they'd just produce and release both simultaneously.

Amen to that. Though the shipping for items helps me justify trips to the Mrs. ;) If we're gonna buy those shirts for the kids, I argue, we'd might as well fly over. It works!

I'm getting it since I didn't have a chance to catch the last home match on TV and thus have seen nothing of the closing ceramony.

For the ignorant (ME) who are usually stuck watching many of the DVD's that don't get licensed to North America... how might you find a region free DVD player?
Thanks,
Jeff

If the region is 0 you can get a player that has PAL and NTSC capabilities and it will certainly play. They usually call them progressive scan and show both PAL & NTSC on the box.
If you want one that will play DVDs from all over the world, region free is the way to go. You can't buy them is stores like BestBuy because technically they are illegal. If you Google Region Free DVD Players you will find a whole mess of them.
Usually you can find them for about $50 -$100. If you're close to NYC go to Chinatown or where ever those guys sell all the crap and one of the places will sell them. I get mine from an Asian DVD shop in Santa Ana.

All these places have them starting around $70.
Amazon even has then and cheap, some $35:

Soccer Learning Systems out of Pleasanton CA has been releasing Region 1 NTSC versions of many European Soccer DVDs in recent years. A few Arsenal items have been among these, and some of them, such as the 03/04 Season Review, Centurions, and 501 Goals have popped up on Amazon.com. On a lark, I called them up a few weeks back and asked them if they expected to be releasing a Region 1 version of It's Up For Grabs Now. I was cheerily informed that SLS plans to release IUFGN in late July or early August, around the same time as they bring out the 05/06 Season Review. I thought y'all would wanna know.

Hope this helps!

I've bought from Soccer Learning Systems in the past and they do great conversions to NTSC from the original format.
I'm just impatient as hell and bought a region-free player just so I can watch UK footy DVDs.

My laptop bought in the US has a region-free DVD player. I bought some DVDs in Spain and all it asked me to do was change the region when I popped one in. I'm pretty sure PlayStation2 is a region-free DVD player as well.
My question: Why can't standard players be region-free?

Isn't the problem that you can only change the region on laptop DVD players something like 3 times before it locks in?

You can download a free program called region free DVD for your computer that you can watch all regions without switching it will be part of the startup of the computer.
Standard players can be region free if flash the chip to pull out the region issue. With new TVs today they will swtich the PAL / NTSC - if you have an old TV it might play the PAL in B&W.
PS2 is not region free unless you buy the card for the slot that makes it region free. I have a PSP and even that is NTSC Region 1, where in Europe the PSPs are Region 2, you can't switch DVDs between them unless you download a program to the OS.

Anyone who wants a region-free DVD player, I suggest the Pioneer DV-393 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=426203&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation). I have its predecessor, the 383 and it's AMAZING. Great video quality and will play just about any disc you put in.
My UK discs look amazing, especially in 16x9 widescreen. The last few Arsenal DVDs produced by Granada are in 16x9 and the match footage looks better than the original broadcast. I guess that's one of the nice things about our team being partially owned by a media company...

Spot on...you can even burn .avi files on a standard CD and it'll play them.

By the way, the Season Review disc has shipped from Amazon.co.uk. They're going to get it to me way faster than Arsenal.com.
I'd be holding out on the new kits if they weren't offering the DVD of us whipping Boro.
