Prior to leaving some fans discussed being apprehensive about people visable showing US support while over here. Of course, I was not and have no regrets about it either. I've been received very well.

I've been wearing US jersey and t-shirts the whole time and haven't gotten crap from anyone once. Not a word, at least not in English or in another language that I could tell, not a gesture, not a look. Everyone has been friendly: at the watch parties, the pubs, the pre/post game town squares, going to/from and at the matches. Outside of the World Cup everyone, everywhere I've been, has been helpful with directions, advice, and attempting English to communicate with me.

Just thought I'd mention this.

LOL, stop it... I like to try and keep my online communities from overlapping as much as possible ;)

what other community could there be except bigsoccer?

anyway i almost feel irresponsible if i dont wear nat gear every day during the world cup. i was about to wear my rooney jersey out, looked in the mirror, and threw it down in disgust and got my nats t-shirt on that has to be old after wearing it every other day for the past month.

An unrelated to soccer community. An in-joke with me and slitz.

I agree 100%. Ive worn my US hat everyday and yesterday I was even wearing a Detroit Tigers shirt. Easy to pick out an American when they are wearing something baseball. I even had an Iranian fan come up and strike up a conversation about the US team and how they think the US can still advance.

Funny story though. Looking American puts a big target on your back for the Red Light District fetchers on the street. I was running late getting back to the hotel yesterday (Frankfurt) and I thought I was taking a shortcut but I ended up just getting lost. Ended up down in the Red Light district. There was a smal group of Americans a couple hundred feet in front of me and I saw a woman on the street run over to them and try to convince them to go into her "club". They said no and kept on walking. Atleast 40 other guys went bye her without saying a word and then I walk bye wearing my US hat and baseball shirt and bam she runs over and tried to get me to come in. I say no I have to go I am late then she grabs my arm and says "It ok. I not going to kill you. Come come in".

Absolutely.

To fair, though, I seem to remember it being only one poster going on and on about security while most took a more sane approach.

My experience also - I went to Munich yesterday wearing a US MNT shirt. No problems at all.

Yeah it wasn't too many but it was a few people and there were also some on the YiG list.

I too have been wearing USA t-shirts about half the time while walking around and plain shirts the other half. I haven't noticed any difference in the way I've been treated.

I think it is due to the pity they have for us because of the way the team played against CR.
