Some of you know about the health related issues that I have been having with my left leg (open compound fracture of the tibia and fibula). I have been wearing an Ilizarov External Fixator (halo cast) for the last 9.5 months. Yesterday, I went to get the results from my latest CT scan and the report was not as favorable as I would like. In fact, the doctor wanted to do another procedure on the leg and it happened today. The doctor performed a Dynamization (sp?). This process stretched out the bone a bit and he added hi-tech shock absorbers to the Ilizarov. As you can image, I was in considerable pain and my spirits were fairly low.
This evening, she decided to give me my father’s day gift a few days early. I open the box and in it was a NIKE soccer ball with all 23 signatures and a COA. I was freaking stoked. It is the 16th of 103 balls that ussoccer.com is selling.
I had no idea my wife would pony up the $300 for the ball, enlight of the endless medical bills that we have. What a wife she is! She said that she wanted to give this to me, because I was not able to go to Germany due to the injury to the leg. Big Props to my wife! Let's hear it for my wife.
The ball will be displayed in my office, next to the game-worn autographed 2005 Green Bay Packer helmet and some signed footballs.

Very cool gift -- and your previous collection of items in the office, that's not too bad already. :)

If you haven't already, you should marry that woman!
And give her a kiss on the mouth for me!
Best of luck with your leg--we all expect you to be up and kicking with the lads ASAP. :)

Gotta give it up to your wife. Ypu are one lucky man.
About your leg. I know how it feels. Had a similar procedure on my left leg. External fixator etc. I was given a bone growth stimulator. Have you asked about one?

Yes...I do feel like I am a lucky guy. WHen I get back home later this week, I will post a few photos of the autographed ball.
As for as the leg is concerned, I do not fee so lucky. I am in month 15 since the break. I am on my third doctor. The first doctor gave me the bone stimulator as a last ditch effort to get it healing and it did not work. Several things he did, did not work.
The doctor I use now (Dr. Mark Brinker, Texas Orthopedic Hospital) is not a firm believer in bone stimulators and I have 100% faith in him. I am hoping in the next 4 months, the Ilizarov will be removed.
It is rare that I find people that truely know what I am going through and it seems that you do. If you have any tips on how to deal with this, please let me know. Daily I have people telling me "I know what you are going through, I had an ACL or a boo-boo on my leg back in 2000 yadda yadda yadda!" Oh well, I need to get back off of my soap box.
If anyone wants to see a few photos of the leg and my little soccer page on myspace, look at the link below. I just created it last weekend when my nephew challenged me to creat one.

Thats freakin awesome that she did that for you and it really sucks about your leg. I bitch about a bit of back pain that required surgery, but nothing at all like what you have gone and still have to go through.
My fiancee is pretty cool too, she bought me a 42" DLP HDTV on the 2nd day of the WC, its been footie in high definition since then :)
Good luck with the leg and kiss your wife!

Now that is a great fiance. I wish my wife would have done that, but I will take the ball.

I had the Ilizarov on my right femur for 13 months in '95-'96. It was great to get it off and play footy again!

My wife is giving me my first son right during the US-Ghana game. Does it get better than that. Don't worry... I'll tape the game.

You should tape the birth instead...the outcome of that event is already known. :)
Best of luck.

After three failed marriages thinking about another wife is out of the picture for me. As for the original poster congrats on the baby.
