When Hell Unfreezes

Why hasn't someone else done this - it's a good exercise in analysing perceptions and different viewpoints?
I'll do it again then........
Robbo - 6 - great impersonation of David James in the first half, should be on 'stars in their eyes' - got his 6 for having fcuk all to do in the 2nd half..
Carragher - 4 - negative, woeful, brutal - the only player I've ever seen, who is more one-dimensional than Butch Wilkins - I could tell you a story about that cvnt.....
Rio - 7 - old fish-face is playing better than I've seen him for yonks, another great game...
Terry - 9 - the Golden Child - where would we be without him?
Cole A - 5 - fcukin brutal - not fit, slow, will (can only) improve...
Poshboy - 6 - OK, worked hard, but some sloppy balls when tracking back and some diabolological free kicks...
Stevie - 6 - great goal, but some awful passes and shots, prior to that...
Franky - 6 - got into good positions, but the final product was shat...
Joey - 6 - slower than me, £80k a week for that, yer aving a larf.........
Mikey - 6 - will get better, improve with every game, we hope???
Crouchino - 7 - awful miss, but redeemed himself.....
subs:
Looney - 5 - ineffectual, but great to see him back, one great dummy........
Lennon - 8 - I was sitting with a guy and we kept saying, he needs wingers, to get round the back of the packed defence - Aaron did just that..........
Downing - 6 - not bad.......
Problems - lack of imagination or width, with the side we're starting with, we need pace, running at the defence and Jesus H Christ, what are the midfield doing - the defenders win it, pass it to the midfield men, then they immediately give it away.......we need to play passes to feet, not where we want someone to be (Posh/Gerrard/lampard), are you listening??????????????
Pluses - we won, Aaron Lennon looked great and JT is the best defender in the tournament! :)

A.Cole (6) - not great ,but made some nice surges into the trini box.

beckham (6) - terrible performance until lennon came on .then he perked up abit.

Robinson - 6 - Did what he had to do, could of done better with the Yorke cross
Carragher - 4 - didn't do a lot
Terry - 7 - saved us before half time, had a good game
Rio - 5 - looked a bit dodgy i thought
Cole - 6 - Not bad, did some decent runs
Beckham - 6 - poor game i thought but he did set up the 1st goal
Lampard - 3 - was really poor
Gerrard - 6 - was kinda quiet before he scored
J. Cole - 5 - was kinda poor, didn't do what he normally does
Crouch - 6 - scored a goal but was kinda poor through out the match
Owen - 4 - Looks so unfit and missed some good chances
Subs
Lennon - 7 - we had more width with him on and caused the defence some problems
Rooney - 6 - great to see him on and his presence was good but not match fit yet
Downing - 5 - didn't do a lot when he came on

Robinson - 5 - A couple of nervous moments.
Carragher - 5 - Not a right back and it shows.
A Cole - 5 - A slight improvement, blatantly not fit.
Terry - 8 - Excellent
Ferdinand - 7 - Solid again. Seems to be hitting consistancy when needed.
Beckham - 5 - Shocking dead balls and drifted far too much inside. When he moved deeper and had to hold to the right the team played with more shape.
Lampard - 5 - It's just not working with him and Gerrard - one has to go to the bench.
Gerrard - 6 - See above
J Cole - 6 - Quiet by his usual standards. A few good moments and a few sloppy passes.
Crouch - 5 - Yes he scored but he missed two absolute sitters
Owen - 4 - Not fit, should never have gone to the World Cup
Lennon - 7 - Direct and held the shape of the side. Provided the impetus for the finish.
Rooney - 6 - A bit off the pace (to be expected) but nothing like the other crocks
Downing - 6 - By just being on the pitch he helped stretch the game late on. A couple of nice moves as well.
Ultimately Sven should have learned his lesson from 2002. Unfit players will not win the big games and we will end up carrying too many passengers unless there is a remarkable turnaround. We can afford Rooney because of what he brings (and he looked sharper than the other two), but Ashley Cole and Owen are not up to shape and we cannot play with three players less than 100%.

Robinson - 5. Dodgy on crosses. Bad positioning in a couple of moments
Carragher - 6. No major mistakes, nothing going forward.
Terry - 8. Thank you. Just thank you.
Ferdinand - 7. Good game, a couple of good passes forward.
A Cole - 7. Much better than the first game.Hopefully he's on his way to his best
Beckham - 7. Not a good game overall, but brilliant at moments...2 assists, and 2 more perfect passes which should've been goals.
Gerrard - 7. Quiet, effective. Great game.
Lampard - 5. Active, but terrible shooting and bad passing. Can't seem to work with Gerrard.
Joe Cole - 6. Couple of decent runs, not bad.
Owen - 5. Wasn't very active, had a chance to score, but didn't.
Crouch - 7. Bad game, missed a great chance to score, but the bottom line is he scored eventually
Lennon - 7. Good sub by Sven. Very good communicating with Beckham.
Rooney - 6. Great to see him back
Downing - n/a.

lanman, how in the world does Downing, who hasn't done anything, deserve a better grade than Beckham, who had 2 assists, and if Owen/Crouch weren't so bad earlier in the game, should've had 4?

With Downing on the pitch and actually playing in the position he was supposed to, England played with a shape and stretched the defence more than when Beckham was knocking in countless poor balls and drifting in making the team far too narrow and playing exactly into T&T's gameplan. Just because he managed to get a few of his passes into the right place doesn't mean he had a good game - he didn't. And you can't give him any real credit for the 2nd goal, that was all down to Gerrard.

So playing in your position without creating real danger for 15 minutes is better than playing bad for most of the game, and yet creating 3 goalscoring chances for your team, and eventually winning it?

No - doing what you're asked to do is better than not doing so.

Beckham - 7. started lively and then faded
Gerrard - 7. Quiet, effective. Cracking goal. He can do much more.

Robbo- 7- Overall, played well, except for not holding his line on the Terry save at the end of the first half
Carragher- 6 - Rough day at the office for him today..
A.Cole-7- Vast difference from Game 1. A few poor touches in the offensive end..
Terry-8- Excellent job. Great save in the first half..
ferdinand-6- Long passes were terrible...
Lampard-3- Should have finished several times in this game.. His shots seemed desparate..
Gerrard-7- Great goal to ice it in the end..
beckham-7- I am giving Becks a seven for his consistency so far.. He gets a six for corner kicks today though..
J.Cole-4- The crossovers are getting a little monotonous. Did I spell that right?:)
Owen-4- Didn't do much.. Missed an easy finish for him....
Crouch-5- Scrapped his way for a goal on the header, but was horrible for the most part today.. Needed to take his time on a couple of those crosses that he could have settled and put in the onion bag..
subs
lennon-8- Great pace and creativity today..Took advantage of his opportunity to play with a fine performance..
rooney-6- Rooney never gets anything below a 6 in my book... His sheer willingness to play on both sides of the pitch, the way he hustles to win/challenge balls.. A 6 today just for match fitness reasons only.. He provided a much needed spark and energy boost..
downing-5- didn't do anything great, didn't do anything poor...

Robbo- 5, didn't do anything great AND made a huge mistake that nearly resulted in the first goal in the match being scored by T&T. Save for a kick off the line.
Carragher- 5, very ineffective.
A.Cole-7, Good energy and defended well.
Terry-8, Best English defender in this game.
ferdinand- 5.5, gave ball away too much, sloppy at times
Lampard-3, Missed too many shots, poor distribution.
Gerrard-6, Nice goal!
beckham-7- Becks hit the mark several times today and he provided reliable service to the front. They just couldn't finish. He also made the game winner.
J.Cole-4, Blah.
Owen-4, Lazy and ineffective, needs a fire lit beneath his ass.
Crouch-5, Did well to score the game winner, thanks to Becks. However, he blew too many chances during the rest of the game. Ought to give him a 4 because he didn't do the robot.
subs
lennon-7, Good pace and helped to open up the penalty area and midfield, where it was a stalemate during the rest of the match.
rooney-7, considering the overall effect on the fans and his balls to the wall approach he single handedly picked the team up. He also found some nice passes and ran his ass off. Considering it's his first game back from being injured by Chelsea, he gets a 7.
downing-Not Rateable

Sven Goran Ericksson dropped Steven Gerrard from the English team tonight.
The reasons stated was that contrary to explicit instructions he went above the half way line and had the Temerity to actually take a shot on goal and (shudder) score.
There will be no more of that! Quoted Sven, Handing Stevie his plane ticket. You're not at Anfield now playing for some Spanish type.

Mr. Robinson - 6 - One flappy attempt, but otherwise sound.
Mr. Carragher - 6 - Solid defensively, but poor distribution.
Mr. Ferdinand - 6 - Not bad, indecisive going forward.
Mr. Terry - 9 - Excellent. Only player with any grit or desire in the first half. Man of the Match. England Captain, August 2006 - ?
Mr. Ashley Cole - 5 - Poor. Still looks very nervous and lacking in confidence.
Mr. Beckham - 6 - Not bad generally, but poor deliveries mostly.
Mr. Gerrard - 7 -Gave the ball away too much, but otherwise good. Nice goal.
Mr. Lampard - 5 - Not good. Two bad games in a row now, but he is at least still trying and getting into positions.
Mr. Joseph Cole - 7 - Looked threatening early on and very creative but faded.
Mr. Owen - 6 - Was getting sharper and sharper through the game. Look for Owen to score vs. Sweden.
Mr Crouch - Like Lampard, kept trying and eventually succeeded.
----
Mr. Lennon - 8 - Made an impact with pace and guile. Super-sub.
Mr. Rooney - 7 - Gave everyone a lift, one or two nice touches.
Mr. Downing - 7 - Again natural width helped against packed defence. Not as exciting as Lennon.
