See what BS us American fans have to put up with. Thankfully it appears to be more and more a minority over here in the states as the cup has gotten for the most part good and positive press coverage. Read this MORONS article. You can e-mail him if you like that's probably what he wants us to do so he gets enough responses for a raise:mad:
If the government really is serious about identifying illegal immigrants, it soon will be provided a unique opportunity to record their whereabouts.

Old ********ing dipshits such as this are losing the war, slowly but surely, and that's why they (the old ********ing farts) are becoming more outlandish, shrill and stupid. The US/Czech game, played on a Monday at noon (when most people were supposed to be at work or in school) was the most-watched program on ESPN2 so far in 2006.
Is the growth of soccer in the US slower than what us diehard soccer fans would like? Yes. But shit-headed columns such as this make it more clear, not less clear, that it is happening.
That is all.

That guy is only afraid that "his" Baseball or Football is slowly losing ground. Why else would you write that sort of thing if not out of fear?
I guess in his case the fear is even more on a whole nother level. His racist remarks at the beginning of the article indicate, that he fears the immigrants as well.

dumbest article i've read in a long time.
i know i'm giving this dude a lot more credit than he deserves, but this quote applies to anyone who has the power to get a message (however idiotic) out to the masses.
“Just because your voice reaches halfway around the world doesn't mean you are wiser than when it reached only to the end of the bar.”

I had to write this:
"Mr Tom,
I'm portuguese and I don't have any kind of direct connection to the US. So sorry for my english. However, your racist remarks at the beggining of the article and despise about the sport shows the image that europeans and the rest of the world have about your country. The truth is that FOOTBALL is rising in the US and it's funny you mentioned that only the illegal immigrants are watching when every american citizen fits in that category. Barely there are any natives left in America so by disrespecting the immigrants, you're also disrespecting your own people.
Czech Republic vs USA was the most watched programme on ESPN2 so far in 2006. For a country that should be working or studying at noon, it's quite an achievement.
Understanding the complexity of football involves more than just watching the "boreness" of the passes and the creation of plays to score. Let me tell you this, scoring in football is a rare thing to happen unlike basketball or any other sport around. So the feeling of seeing my club/national team scoring is almost orgasmic unlike the 2 or 3 claps after a good throw to the basket. The tactics of football are almost infinite. It's not like american football/basketball when the characteristics of the players are all the same from both sides and the only thing that changes are the combined plays. In football you can start with 3/4/5 defenders, play a more agressive and defensive-minded game if the overall strenght of the players is weaker than the opponent, place a tall striker to win the heights against small central backs or a striker that is less strong but has an incredibly speed and comes in handy against slow central-backs, etc, etc. It's about taking advantage of the fortes of your players and place them at the right positions, with the right tactic to close spaces to the opponent and basically score many goals you can or in case your side is pretty weak, to score one and bunk the midfield. And goals can happen in many varied ways unlike the usual ball down the basket or scoring just by stepping on a particular side of the field...
If you can't understand football, then blame the simplicity of basketball, NFL and your dumbness if you really gave it a try in understanding it. I don't blame you for not liking it, that I respect. But putting senseless garbage on people's minds like you're the voice of american people is hilarious.
The addition of political superiority that americans are right and the rest of the world is wrong, shows how many respect you have for the human race.
I bet that if the US was a football power you wouldn't write this. You rather see the US play their backyard sports where they can win it all than a competition that involves the entire world. So in a way, that american macho mentality that football is for sissies, is to avoid the disappointment to be constantly defeated in an area that americans have no domination. Fortunately, not all have your backward mentality.
Go back to the hole you came from...and take Bush with you."

Well said Daniel:) Fortunately this jerk is becoming more and more a minority in this country. Most Americans are proud that we have an opportunity to compete against the rest of the world at the world cup in a sport as beautiful as futbol:)
Good Luck to Portugal the rest of the way. Hopefully the US will get the opportunity to join them in round 2.

I thought it was a funny article, nothing more or less.
Yes, America may be the only country that doesn't go goofy for soccer. We also are the only remaining super power. Don't you see a connection there?
:D
Good stuff IMO.

That's how a lot of Americans feel sadly. Hmm. If he really thinks soccer is that boring then he must have never truly seen baseball. Where a bunch of guys hepped up on illegal drugs (steroids) play be swinging a stick at a ball.
What other sport is so boring that the people have to have a stretch at one point in the game? lol. Sorry to any baseball fans.... But seriously, look at your all star players. All have done steroids, you let people on steroids set your records.
I as well thought it was a funny article. Anyway, if America was as die-hard for soccer as Brazil or others were, I really believe that we would be kicking so much ass it would hurt... We would have better riots than you guys too lmao. We have wayy less people going out for the sport at highschool/college levels yet we still do well. Anyone responding this, I don't care if you think I'm a dumbass or any other crap like that. You know it's true.. :)
