Hopefully Lamps will wake up and realise that this will probably be his last World Cup and he needs to take this opportunity to shine.

His last WC?
Um...don't know about that one.

If Sven is going to play Carrick then we might finally see the best of Lampard. Carrick can play the holding role, Gerrard playing box to box and Lampard playing in his favourite attacking role with little defensive duties.

I'm excited to see Hargreaves being considered for the right back spot. I thought he could have been considered for this spot prior to the tournament. England really need someone more dynamic in that position--fresh legs, fresh ideas--than Carragher and Neville.
We'll see how he does. That right side really needs to be activated in order to balance out England's attack. Almost the entire Sweden game was played through the left.
Now if only we could put someone more dynamic in Beckham's position, then we'd have a system that flows. Hoping to see Lennon play a part tomorrow...

He'll be turning 32 halfway through the 2010 World Cup. It's eminently possible that he will not feature in that tournament. Particularly if he has a Euro 2008 to match his World Cup 2006 (to date, that is - I expect him to prove himself yet).

You'd rather see Hargreaves at RB than a fit Gary Neville? Why? Have you watched Neville play the last few years - his delivery has improved to the point he's probably one of the best crossers on the team and he's more than happy to get up and down the field to support the attack.
Why on earth would you want to play a DM out of position over one of the best RB's in the EPL?

I know this is an old poll but the question should always have been drop Crouch. Gerrard hasn't exactly been great for England, just in the right place at the right time with his 2 goals. I think Sven has FINALLY gotten something right with the 4-5-1. The only thing he needs to fix is subbing Lennon for Becks at the hour mark.

An unfit Rooney as a lone striker is doomed to failure.
I still think Sven is an idiot for not bringing a backup right-back. But then again past Neville I can't think of any who are really world cup standard.

To be fair to Lampard, he's getting in the positions and getting the shots, but they just aren't going in. It really is only a matter of time before he scores. Same with Ballack on Germany.

Hate to quibble because the line-up thing has been churned for ages now but I honestly think that 4-5-1 is a cop out and in order to keep Beckham on the pitch, Sven will now put the unfit but courageous Rooney upfront to go it alone. I really fear for the kid today against Ecuador, especially with the great Hurtado in the middle. Roo is going to try to do everything and my fear is he'll get hurt again.
England should be playing like this today:
4-1-3-2
Hargreaves. Carragher. Terry. Cole.
Carrick.
Lampard. Gerrard. J.Cole.
Crouch. Rooney.
Hate to start Crouch. But that's what you get when you invest in the injury prone Owen, bring along a 17 year wonderkid whom you don't want to play and ignore the likes of Defoe.

But ballack has still been Germany's best player even though he hasn't scored. Have you ever watched a game where lampard didn't score and thought that he played well?
Lampard has had 17 shots in this wc so far and normally this would equate to 3-4 goals for him. And if he he had done that then everybody would be saying how great he is.

I'm beginning to think that SGE's love affair with Lampard is even greater than that he has with Beckham.
Incidentally - it's not only Lampard's finishing thus far, it's his passing as well. He miss-hit numerous passes when a decent ball would have seen England through. Really poor game today for Lampard.

Lampard was cr@p again today. More fluffed shots (including one where Rooney did all the work for him and placed it on his foot on a silver fecking platter) and more confusion with Gerrard.
People keep calling for Beckham to be dropped, but he has delivered in every game so far. Lampard was supposed to be one of the best in the world, but I have seen nothing from him to merit that rating. Seems like when he doesn't have his Chelsea teamates around him, he's just average. He needs to be dropped pronto. Carrick had a superb game as DM and was more accurate than Lampard in the passing department too.
Crouch in for Lampard in the next game, so we can revert to a 4-4-2.

Lampard should definitely not be dropped. If he keeps getting in positions like that, he will score. He has underperformed so far but he has played no way near as badly as some people are making out and I would have him in the side every time.

why are you not calling for wonder crouch to be back in the side?
