To all the lawyers or interns out there, I offer a challenge to you. Find the regulation where the FCC requires fair and impartial coverage to politics sports news whatever. Just find it. I am sick of major events in soccer occuring it it being just out right ignored by local media. (Dallas Fort Worth in particular) It is sickening when the US mens National team come to Pizza Hut park and media is silent. I only know about it because I am on top of it and know where to get my information. It is sickening when the US is competing on the International stage and it is not heard over the airwaves.

Lets find the regulations and lets twist the media's arms into providing fair and impartial coverage to this sport.

I can't believe that you had the nerve to start this thread once, let alone twice. Wasn't the thread in MLS General enough for you?

Should I close this for the sheer stupidity of the premise that a game that was on ESPN2 was ignored by the media or should I declare open season on this guy?

I think you know which way I'd vote. :)

Let it go. He started that thread in the morning, and got yelled at elsewhere. I hope he got his message by now. It would be counter-productive to keep this thread alive.

Quite possibly the dumbest thread I've seen this year.

Spectacularly dumb.

Ok. Here is the challenge. Turn on the local news. Turn on the national news. Listen to the radio. Watch your so called ultimate sports shows. Listen to your standard sports radio. Do this and reply back with who, what, when and where. It isn't even mentioned. The only place you will find it is if you know where and when to look. This world cup is magnitudes better then previous ones.

There is a distinct predjudice out there against soccer. On 106.1 KISS FM Kid Kraddick (sp) tried to say something about the WC but Kelley and AL quickly derided him severly for it. This is discraceful purely on a patriotic stand point. The USA is competing on the world stage and it's citizens aren't being told. It isn't because no one cares. The USA Czech game on ESPN2 drew its largest viewing audience ever for any sport. Now that is saying something. The problem is, is that no one is.

Call in to the station and complain about Kelly and Al, whoever they're are. Make noise in your local media to be heard. FCC has got nothing to do with this.

Is it even worth my time?

Your understanding of the media as well as your knowledge of what FCC regulations mean is so utterly ********ed up, it's not funny.

First of all, you are easily the most clueless person that posted on here in quite some time.

Second of all, the statement of yours that I highlighted above is equally clueless. Do you honestly think that the USA game out-drew super bowls, NBA finals games, World Series Games, The Daytona 500, The Indy 500, and many other sporting events? Do you really? If you do, then I'd like to know how in the world you manged to find the internet.

Can someone find me the federal regulation that will force Eva Longoria to visit my home fortnightly wearing a catholic school girl outfit and an agreeable attitude?

I listen to very little radio, and I can still name two exceptions off the top of my head:

1. Mike & Mike, by far the best sports talk show and one that's simulcast on ESPN2 (until giving way, graciously, to World Cup coverage). They had Eric Wynalda on the show the other day, then continued with a discussion on their own. It wasn't the most insightful discussion, by our clique's standards, but it was respectful.

2. DC101's Elliott in the Morning had a teaser this afternoon for Monday's show in which he mentioned that Alecko Eskandarian would be on. I'm guessing they have Esky because a regular guest of his, Ben Olsen, is otherwise occupied.

And I'll bet you whatever you like that you've heard more about Bobby Convey on the airwaves this summer than you've heard about Justin Gatlin. If you don't know who Justin Gatlin is, you've proved my point. Thanks.

And in any case, even if soccer had been mentioned even less than Justin Gatlin, you couldn't call the FCC for help any more than I could call and demand that Fox continue to air Arrested Development.

Actually, that's not what he said. He was talking about espn2 broadcasts.

I'm totally on board with this. We should start with the Special Olympics and their refusal to offer soccer as a sport. That's where you come in.

Is the OP serious or just an expression of frustration? (EDIT: Having read all the replies, I'm not sure.)

Even if the FCC in theory is supposed to guarantee that broadcasters act "in the public interest," there are many more fruitful areas than sport in which to try to revive the Fairness Doctrine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairness_Doctrine).

How DARE you think that your likes and dislikes do not require validation from "the media"!!!! That type of thinking is exactly what's wrong with this country. Merely being content in your own opinions and beliefs is not enough. If you are not making a federal case out of, you are obviously siding with those who would destroy the very foundations of liberal thought in this country.

Remember, it's not whether or not you like it, it's whether the media says it OK for you to like it.

Now give me 10 Hail Freddys and never make this mistake of thinking that your free thought is more imporant than what "the media" says.
