Ok so what are people reading these days?
I'm still reading Daredevil as I have been for years. Other than that he's a list of a few I pick up every month.
Queen & Country
Peter Parker: Spider-Man
Ultimates
Wildcats
Astro City (new mini-series woo hoo)
Rising Stars
I picked up X-Treme X-Men, Uncanny X-Men and X-Men after a 5 year hiatus and I'm completely lost.
Not to mention Kia Asamiya's art is horrible in Uncanny.
So what's on your list?

I bought the Dark Knight Returns trilogy. That's the first comic book I've bought in like 15 years...
...and I didn't care for it as much as the original Dark Knight comic 4 parter.

I've been out of the loop for years, but I used to be a very serious collector.
Recently the premise of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" has appealed to me, so I picked it up.
And I'm afraid I might be hooked again on graphic novels. It's as good as it can be.
Any other suggestions?

I gave up on most of the comics I was reading a couple of years ago (Flash, Impulse, Young Justice, Rising Stars is what I was getting back then), but I went back to the store just recently to pick up Astro City: Local Heroes. Awesome stuff.

All Astro City rocks. I was glad to see that Busiek decided to kick us down another story, even if it's only a miniseries.
If you liked "Rising Stars," check out the graphic novel "Midnight Nation" (unless you originally bought the series). Straczynski wrote that, too, and it's pretty interesting. Not superhero stuff. You can borrow it, if you want, just remind me to bring it to a tailgate.
New/recent stuff I've found compelling:
Y: The Last Man
Fight for Tomorrow miniseries
Wildcats v. 3.0
Stormwatch Team Achilles
Aquaman (I'm a Rick Veitch fan...)
Sandman Presents: Bast miniseries
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2 miniseries
New/recent stuff I've found terrible:
Dicks 2
Call of Duty (all of them; bought all the series before I even read an issue and nearly puked when I did...)
Shadows
The Filth (I respectfully propose a worldwide Grant Morrison moratorium until further notice...)
Ongoing favorites:
American Century
Fables
Hunter: The Age of Magic
Hawkman
Powers
Punisher
Anything from ABC Comics (Tom Strong books, Greyshirt, Promethea, Top 10, etc...there's a new Top 10 story on the way, too!)
100 Bullets
Any Barry ******* Ween
For the near future, I'm particularly looking forward to the new Top 10 and the return of the main man, Lobo.

Powers continues to wow me.
I also like Micah's work on Stormwatch, the first issue too a little while for me to get used to. I was never a big fan of Portacio's art, but it's slowly growing on me.
I'm also looking forward to the new Top 10, I heard the new mini-series will focus on the early days of Precinct 10.
Some others I also read:
Bulletproof Monk
GI Joe - although it's getting a little lame for me
Out There
War Stories - whenever it comes out
Liberty Meadows
High Roads was ok, the artwork was beautful imho. Point Blank was also pretty good.
One comic I WISH would come back is Scud: The Disposable Assassin. I absolutely loved that book.
Gun Fu was a fun comic as well. There are so many that come and go that I know I'm leaving some off my list!

Y: The Last Man
100 Bullets
Daredevil
Powers
X-Statix
Ultimates (when it actually comes out)
Wildcats v. 3.0 (and I didn't even like or read much of the previous versions)
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
American Century
Batman (the Jim Lee & Jeph Loeb run)
are currently my favorites.
Although I do buy a bunch more also.

well, shoot, I was about to start this thread, but now that it's up hopefully it will grow.
Books I don't miss every month are:
Uncanny X-Men
New X-Men
Ultimate X-Men
I am not sure about Asimaya's art either. And so far the writing since issue 416 isn't all that great. The team lineup is sub par and I DO NOT LIKE at all the ex-prostitute character. What an aweful mutant. I hope she dies soon.
Books I have very much enjoyed over the past couple years:
Punisher Vol. 4, 12 issue miniseries
Wolverine Origin miniseries
I try to read alot of other stuff, but dang if being in school doesn't put a big ol' damper on how many books I can afford in a year!

I used to be a big collector but I stopped.I started again last year when the Wizard World Convention hit town and was really drawn into the Wolverine Origins miniseries. But I usually pick up some Spider-Man,or X-Men and some Green Lantern comics too. But like speedcake mentioned it's not easy on a college student salary.

Cerebus. But only because I've followed it since the early 80s and I'm waiting to see if it improves before it ends.
Some of Masamune Shirow's stuff is interesting in a "William Gibson Meets Tom Clancy" sort of way.
Scud was great. As was Flaming Carrot.
I have no use for anything Marvel or DC or any of their spin-offs.

StormWatch & WILDCats that you mentioned - I used to read these and I did like them. They're still good?

StormWatch and Wildcats are totally different than before.
StormWatch is now a UN Special Forces unit that is comprised of humans from around the world. They are there to keep the superhumans in check. It's a very violent and gritty comic, imo much better than the original. The writer is new to comics, he used to be an Army Ranger.
Wildcats has some great artwork going for it and the story is pretty good too. There are only a few of the original in the story but it's definitely worth a pick up.

I've got the first two issues of Ghost in the Shell 2 sitting on my desk, I heard it's great.

It's pretty crazy and amazing. You really have to be ready to sit down, read and look at the art to even try to understand what's going on. So much art and information on every page.

The medling of the computer imaging with the hand-drawings is pretty cool too. AFAIK, it pretty much sets the bar for this type of thing, at least among the big titles. I'd like to see the original Ghost series get this same computerized and full-color treatment. Then again, I can say the same of Appleseed...

Anyone here ever read Shirow's Black Magic?
I recently picked up the trade paperback and have yet to read it. I heard it's good from some people and a lot more said it's one of his worst.

I think it was his first series. It's only weak compared to most of his later stuff but that's hardly a surprise I guess.
Dominion was interesting but just a little too weird and unfocused.
I think he really found his stride with Appleseed and has basically stuck with interesting variations and permutations on that style and theme (the relatively weak "Orion" excepted) ever since.
