Very comprehensive win for Ecuador. The Ticos had their chances, but the second goal by Gomez sealed their fate. I don't think they can beat Germany, but what an opportunity for La Tri to make a statement!

i'm pretty pissed i missed the first half. first 6am that i failed to watch live and in its entirety.
but, what i did see from ecuador was very impressive in the 2nd half. they definitely proved most of us wrong with their ability to score goals and win away from high altitude.
i think they are more than capable of getting a point from germany in the next game.
as for the ticos, well, i expected better from them, but i knew that their team wasnt as good as the 02 one.

Im impressed , great game by Ecuador. Solid in both defense and attack, Costa rica had no chance. It's good to see South America being well represented by teams other then Brazil and Argentina.

That means if Ecuador can hold Germany to a tie, we get to see England vs. Germany! Time for the world cup to start!

Germany has the history, but Ecuador are beseemingly up-and-coming at the moment.

Costa Rica are this year's Saudi Arabia. Conceding 7 goals in two matches ia a disgrace.

Finally, a good shot of the mask.

Yes, Ecuador was very impressive today. Good ball movement, solid defense. And I don't think that Costa Rica played all that poorly.
I want to see Kaviedes celebration. :D
Now, if Ecuador beats or draws with Germany, they win the group!

I have to say I was very dissapointed with Costa Rica, bar a very good chance in the last 5 minutes, they just seemed to fizzle out the majority of the time. Ecuador look reasonably solid in defense, and dangerous in the attacking department on occasions, Germany will need to show their World Cup Contender qualities when they meet Ecuador in their next game.
It's a shame to see Group A all but wrapped up so early, but the memory of the German heartbreaker last night will be my main memory of this group, I think.

I sense Germany will play for the win, so Ecuador will need to absorb that pressure. A draw will be good enough for ECU, but they don't want to play too conservatively either. My guess is that the Germans will try their darndest to make sure Ecuador cannot do against them what they did to Poland or Costa Rica--should be an intriguing game next week.

Congratulations to Ecuador.
In 1998 they hadn't ever qualified for a World Cup. Four years ago they lost their first two World Cup games but won and eliminated Croatia in the last game. Now they have two shutouts in their first two games and clinched a second round spot.
England would be tough but they could beat Paraguay, Trinidad or Sweden.

I can't describe how happy I am right now! For those of us that have followed this team for the last few years, this has got to be sweet. After all those years of disapointment, it's great to have this right now. Fight On Ecuador!!!!!

By the way, I don't think I've seen Ecuador's coach smile. When Ecuador scored their first goal, he acted like nothing happened and the assistant was almost doing cartwheels.
If you didn't know any better, you'd think that Ecuador's coach was Costa Rica's.

i think i'm the first tico here, anyways:
*SON OF A........., Costa Rica was the biggest waste today and in all this world cup; not that it would matter- but I officially declare "bull****" on that whole attitude of ours saying "oh well, but we lost to the hosts; or we lost to the champions (brazil-2002); or we almost beat that third place team (Turkey-2002)" that's it; we did not even have a chance today because for the same reason of last 2002- no chances whatsoever; complete, and utter disgrace- omg, i think my younger sister could have saved that second goal;
BOTTOM LINE: nevermore, nevermore will i take the loser's attitude to that of "oh we lost to (whichever the team me be)
*ECUADOR! ECUADOR!!!!!!! may God be with you, win the first place of group A and keep advancing on and on and on; I must cheer for Argentina because my best friends in the world are Argentinian, but undoubtedly that I will cheer for you as if you were Costa Rica from now on- go get Germany
btw: on the way home from this tico bar i stopped and talked to a fellow ecuadorian- nice guy and I told him he has my support; and also, all the ticos at the place i was at cheered for the third goal
