zidane was the best he's been in a long time. he's not the zizou who was voted player of the century in a FIFA poll a couple of years ago? who is????
henry too bad he wasn't as good on the first two as on the third, but he was all over the field, and if we had korea spinning for 60 minutes, a lot of it was due to him.
You forgot to review Trezeguet's time on the pitch

Here's my review:
Trez looked great running onto the pitch. He had a nice stride and his arm movements were perfectly coordinated with the steps he took. Then the game was over.

So what do we need.... To beat Togo by 2 goals or more?
It's 2 goals if Switzerland and Korea draw, and it's 1 goal if one beats another.

Is it though? What if Switzerland and Korea tie 2-2, and we beat Togo 2-0.... Don't the Swiss and Koreans go through because of goals scored?

No cause Korea has only +1 on goal average, and we'd have +2.
We have to score 2 goals to eliminate the Koreans

I'd like to see :
Sagnol----------Thuram-------Gallas-------Sylvestre-----
------------------Vieira------Makelele--------------------
-------Ribery---------------------------------Malouda----
----------------Henry------------Trezeguet--------------
and I wouldn't mind seeing Henry subbed around the 60th minute.

those criticizing viera must have seen a completely diffrent game than me. or else they're expecting the monster pat of a few years ago. he was good, even beyond almost scoring twice.
his last effort has no chance of going in, it very nearly went straight up! For me his activity was good, but I preferred the presence of Maka who primarily didn't give away fouls like Vieira dit. His passing wasn't up to scratch and his touch w/ those koreans scrambling around him was worrying and slowed us down. That said, my vitriol directed against him was more lashing out after the match because of that miserable attempt at goal, rather than the whole of his performance. (he still should've been taken out)
At least France was able to weather historical conflicts and instability on its own merits instead of having to be the perpetual underdog caught in conflicts of overwhelmingly bigger external factors.
Ok, i agree here - the koreans weren't exactly populous nor positioned well. (nb- you have to remember that when you refer to France, it didn't exist as a unified country until more recently in history). However, the point I'm trying to make is this (which is not really geographical other than the fact that France was in Europe) : when you have a balance of power wherein most states are relatively equal in strength and capability, it produces a geopolitical climate that is much more unstable than one with a dominant power or powers in the region. Whether or not the french or their feudal predecessors could defend themselves is not particularly important - rather it is that they were located in a continent wherein the balance of power was constantly transformed and remade through violence as evidenced by the endless wars throughout it's history until the breaking point (one can say) at WWII - a horrendous consqeunce of the politics of europe. I'm not going to say Korea was better off stuck between some dominant powers, because I don't know much asian history, but it's absolutely ridiculous to say that France is in a much better geopolitical location.

Sh.t happens. You really can't blame the refs on this one. They don't have the slow motion.
Trez MVP ! the way he put the captain's armband on, with a fiendish grin on his face, was the best moment of the game. He looked as if he wanted to tackle Raymondo very hard in the shinbones to make him pay the humiliation.
close second : Zidane, for the way he quit the pitch without even looking at the coach.
Some teams need police assistance to protect themselves from stalkers and hooligans. Raymondo will soon be needing guards to protect him from his own players.

Yeah but I don't think the system makes a big difference, during the 1st half yesterday, all our players had the right attitude, controlled the match, and were playing 40 meters ahead of Barthez with a rather defensive system (2 defensive midfielders, 1 striker).
Everything crumbled in the 2nd half for whatsoever reason, we gave away the possession of the ball, we retreated inexplicably and we got what we deserved.
Imo it'll be a question of having the right attitude or not on Friday (and I'm pessimistic)...

without zidane, we'll have henry as our focal point in attack which is definately good, but i doubt domenech will be able to utilize him well. As a result, we need as many strikers as possible. I'm not saying use that 4-3-3 i posted above (although i'd love to see it in action) but at least bring in a second striker that will finish, get a rebound, or something that will help Titi out.

I think this was due to mixture of French player's getting tired and Dick's game plan heading into that game(defend 1st attack later).... As for Koreans, substituted Seol was very effective while Park JS and Lee YP came alive in second half...I wished Ahn came on 10 minutes faster in that 2nd half...
I must admit, 1st half was ALL france...even though I was cheering and screaming myself out with RED DEVIL kit on... that 1st half made me realize we(Korea NT) didn't have that same 2002 quality...
That equalizer by Park was something else....Ahn's one touch pass to Seol....Seol beating his marked man on the right flank....sending a beautiful cross to JJJ(who didn't do jack shiit till that moment)...JJJ heading it back into Park's lane.... and that :D I still get kick out of that goal....
It wasn't the most beautiful or ugliest...I can't find the word at the moment:p
Now...as for your French boys...
first of all what was the deal with Trez comin in with 2minutes left with capt band and all? did anyone mention this during post game interview?
As a soccer fan, I'm hoping I can see Zidane in knock out stage.... but I think Togo will be doable for you guys... much easier then our Swiss biitche$$.....
good luck y'all!
