Just read an article on Advocaat's pre-game tactics.

It seems that he wanted the Korean players to let France take control of the game and invite them in so they would quickly become exhausted. Of course he didn't expect that early goal, but regardless he continued with this plan. With the start of the second half, he then had our players gradually begin their attack and hit them when they were clearly gassed.

Interesting...

Domenech played into Avocaat's tactic, it seems.

that is logical in a sense, but also very dangerous - had we kept up the pressure and squeezed in a couple goals then his tactic would've simply been too foolhardy. But he must've known something i suppose (i.e. we don't score).

no YOUR goal was lucky after watching a bunch of replay of the goal i noticed that if barthez hadn't of swiped at parks desperate toe poke it would have gone over or hit the post. lol so you could say barthez indirectly screwed us over (like agianst senegal) but im sure coupet would have don the same. and ur just being dumb because u kno our goal wasn't ugly no korean forward has that kind of poise in front of goal.
Since Korean forwards have scored 7 to 8 more goals in the last 2 WCs than French forwards, the statitistics would disagree with you.

Didn't watch the game(2AM in my local time :p ), how come your coach prefers Wiltord to David trezeguet ? and also why in the world he excluded Guly and keeps Wiltord . The france team looks rusty and old to me and won't go anywhere if they don't change the tactics.

Is there any chance that Coupet will get the nod for game 3 after Barthez's fuk up?

i'm not domenech (thank god) but i think i can give a good explanation why - first we have nobody who can claim to be a starting right winger except for wiltord. Before, we were playing with an awkward formation with Vieira on the right which clearly didn't work - Domenech was therefore looking for balance on both wings so he started both malouda and wiltord. Now, why no trezeguet? It's not so much a preference between wiltord and david (as explained above) but rather between vieira and trezeguet. Because Raymond prefers a defensive formation and feels that henry, zidane, the two wingers, and the overlapping fullbacks can do all the work - which it could provided your man in front plays this type of game which he doesn't. Basically it comes down to 1) play vieira, strengthen your hold in the midfield or 2) put one more man up front and get people in the box that are capable of scoring goals.

*oh and vieira is shit by the way. lovely finish

Giuly wasn't even called up, but as to why he prefers him to wiltord, the only explanation is that Domenech is a shithead who prioritizes his own personal agenda of that of the team,

No. I think Coupet's wonderful, but selecting him will only destablize the camp further probably. That said, I don't know what the player relationships are, but dropping your GK in this situation seems a little pointless, although I can understand why (his great impression of roy carroll, and then his version of that clip I see on the internet where the gk throws it into his own net  )

Where did this French team come from? Somebody seemed to give these guys some pep pills because they sure had a bunch more energy than in any of their other recent matches! I thought they looked very good until maybe the last 15 minutes. They really dominated the SK's who are not a bad side. These guys all found some young legs last night. Even Viera and Zidane were much more active. You got to give the Koreans a LOT of credit for their determination. They found a way to get the ball in goal. The French could use some of that fighting spirit.

Is Dhorasoo that bad? I kinda like him, he seems to have a clean tighty style.

He came on late vs Switzerland and had almost had a goal.

My favourite team has always been Brazil, and both time they were beaten by France in '86 and '98, they have great players and plays that earn my respect.

This '06 team has my favourite player Henry, totally screwed by the worst coach anyone can get.

Domenech should be fired right away. Bring in Arsene Wenger and I bet he can turn this team around. Doesn't the French FA has the right to do this? He is the one who know how great Henry is. Henry is the greatest player in the team, not that I don't respect Zidane. Zidane should have been given less burden, and play his wonderful game. Henry should be the captain not Zidane anymore (as he will be out anyway), and lead the team, just like how he leads Arsenal. The whole team focus should be passing to Henry, just like how it works at Arsenal.

Drop in Saha (look at how active he was after entering the game in the first match) to go with Henry, and some other younger players who wants to win this cup, not those who are still dreaming about '98. Saha has been scoring goals for Man U, why sits him in the bench?

If France doesn't go through this first round, what a sad exit for Zidane ...

My dream final would be France vs Brazil and at that point, I would be happy anyone wins. But I am afraid I might be heart broken soon ...

I wonder if Gallas' reaction after the Korean goal was partly being pissed at the fact that they scored but more at Bathez for not coming off his line..

the color commentator on the spanish channel who did this game was none other than Chilavert! And he was saying a younger goalie would of had the reaction to get that ball :(

Geopolitically, France is in a much better spot than Korea.

ptn de merde, calmez-vous!

the absolute ignorance i'm seeing on this thread is stunning.
a) don't tell me that's france is located in a geopolitically calm location, because that's far from the truth. (just ask the germans)
b) europeans are the most ignorant people in the world? please how many europeans do you know and how many have you actually talked to?
c) again, our side, what is this garbage about disrespecting the koreans.

By Barthez swiping the ball, upward force was applied, thus the ball flew higher. Did you even watch the replays? Just wanted to point out simple physics. Anyways, I'm not here to stir up anything. Just found some of your comments funny.
Carry on.

Oh and good luck against Togo.
