Well at least people outside recognize that there has been progress.

I think that is about the smartest thing I have heard all night. And there is no denying it is true.

Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air you'll never find me
I will turn your face to alabaster
Then you will find your servant is your master

...well, maybe someday.

To be fair, the blog entry is entitled "Europe 3, America 1" and looks briefly at the four games between European teams and American teams, with Ecuador the lone victorious side.

The quote seems accurate. We are still a long way away from the top teams.

Saw some show on FSC (I think) recently on the Brazilian soccer culture. For ********s sake getting to that level might as well be like intergalactic space travel.

Its not all about progress and length of time playing the game. England have been playing quite some time, but when we fail ( and we ALWAYS fail) we don't go thinking that we are somehow being schooled by our betters, we just accept that we are not good enough to win. When Germany wins WC after WC they don't think that they are innately better or more advanced, or with better, more skillful players, they just know that they got it right at the time, whether that be tactically, mentally, or in terms of the right bunch of players coming together at the right time. It ain't rocket science. Is Australia now one of the better WC sides? No, but they will be in the knockout rounds with all the press talking about them, before being bravely knocked out, and then from then they will be considered a better side than the USA, who will not make the KO stages. But I think we can all agree that the USA are a better footballing nation than the Aussies, both in terms of clubs and the NT. Don't get too downhearted, we would have all committed suicide a long time ago on this side of the pond if we thought that international tournaments alone determined your footballing status, thankfully there are other factors as well.
