I guess Sam's Army was split up and massively outvoiced and outnumbered ???
Sucks when the opposing fans are wearing the same colors that we are.

US supporters being out numbered in Europe? NO! ;) :D
We'll stand out more in the Italy game. Oh well.

And we didn't even riot or throw urine bombs. We *do* have a lot to learn.

So the battle that has been raging for sams army between red and the us jerseys has been settled by the europeans . '' But what americans dont understand is that individuality has no place in soccer . Coordination is the key ''

Seriously, I like how the AP focuses on fan issues without emphasizing hooliganism or violence, very unusual for a mainstream media outlet at least by European standards. Still though, their expectations are a little high. The last time an American traveling party outnumbered a European side in competition on the Continent was, iirc, 1945 ;)

Considering that Czech fans merely had to take about 50 euro train ride to get there where as the US supporters were staring down 2000 dollar plane tickets.
Not really surprising we were outnumbered.

"Sam’s Army still isn’t the power it could be. If it had the right leader to direct the troops, it would be able to support with passion and force like the great countries of this tournament. "

The US fans were a frickin joke at the World Cup.
They Were Rude
They Were Ignorant
They Were Arrogant
They Were Unsportsmanlike
And They Didn't Cheer when the team needed them.
What a joke

Americans don't like following a leader. We are all individuals. Look at our supporters groups across MLS, small clubs with 2 or 3 different groups because we can't agree on leaders and divide ourselves.

Where did you get your info?
All the US fans I've met have been veryfriendly.
I have family in Gelsenkirchen and they loved the US fans. Most actually said the the USA fans must have been the nices people they have ever met.
So don't be too hard on yourself, you certainly made an impression.
I watched that match in a Biergarten here in Germany and I thought you were fine, nobody can expect the US to outnumber the European teams but you certainly showed up.

Trinidad's fans have to put up with the same thing, but that didn't stop them from being heard. US fans lack coordination. When i went to see the US play England in Chicago English fans outnumbered us by a large amount and they made 100 times the noise.

I am over in Berlin right now (just have tickets for the ITA and GHA matches) so I can't comment on the stadium itself, but in Berlin at the Fan Fest they have setup here (nine huge screens, dozens of beergardens, thousands of fans, etc.) the USA fans were louder and larger in number than the Czech fans.
We sang God Bless America in full voice and did a few other staple chants (USA! USA! mostly), but ran out of gas about the 75th minute.

I haven't heard many chants other than that. Are there any? I'm not being sarcastic, i really would like to know.

Please keep in mind that we could not get the USSF to post the pdf file to offer tickets to Sam's Army/US Supporters until 5 days after the tickets had been offered for sale to anyone in the world with a credit card. Ticket "confusion" has plagued the USSF long before the World Cup fiasco. Considerable begging and pleading presaged the pdf file's posting. With rumors of a possible Beckham appearance and sellout, many hardcore fans bought tickets before the pdf file was posted, so we had maybe 1/3 the hardcore fans in Section 8 compared to the Poland game a year earlier. I saw many people I knew from otehr games trying to enter Section 8 with tickets.
The Lieutenant has a good point about American fans and the American psyche in general.
