To those who have been to the game, are they checking all passport to ticket names that you have seen? I have tickets to the US vs Ghana game in my name and the 3 other games that I got off of Ebay without name transfer. If they are checking, short of forging IDs, any work around??

Thanks

Oh, heading to Frankfurt Thursday night...cant wait to get there!!!

There's a thread over in the World Cup area with reports on this. Everyone reports no ID checks but tickets are run through a machine to detect forgeries.

I was at the opening match - just scanned the ticket and I went on in. At the security checkpoint they did a pat-down and asked me if I had any weapons, but for all of the fuss they made, they're not checking anything!

On the WC Fans & Travel thread, nobody has said they were checked for tickets ,and only one person saw anyone get checked.

It does look you you probably won't need to show your passport. On the other hand if you can take it, especially if you've travelled a bit for the game and wouldn't be able to make it back to your hotel, it could still be worth taking it just in case.

There might only be a 1% chance of needing it, but if you can take it with you, why even take that small risk?

Well, if it's not your passport number on the ticket, that's a good reason not to take it!

I went to the game yesterday and NO ID CHECKS!! nothing... just a scanner for the ticket. Security well... had a backpack with me with my flags/scarves/camera AND CAMCORDER. Security didn't even see it!! very bad bag search. Have tons of pix and video!! don't have a pix host site, so if I could email somebody that has such service and maybe they can post. Please PM if you have a pix host site.

saw one report of one person who's passport was checked and he said he was the only one that he saw get checked... so it looks like very random very spotty checks

edit but then I saw this: sorry for the long quote it come to me in an email don't have the original link
June 13 (Bloomberg) -- Fans will be admitted to World Cup matches with tickets bought from scalpers, tournament organizer FIFA said, reversing its policy of forcing supporters to acquire them through official channels.

Fans can get into games ``as long as the ticket is valid and you can say `here is my passport,''' Wolfgang Niersbach, vice president of the organizing committee, told a press conference in Berlin. Between 500 and 1,000 people are checked before each match, he said.

World Cup organizers, trying to discourage hooligans and scalpers from marring the event, previously said ticket holders could only enter stadiums if their name was printed on the ticket and they carried proof of identity. While the tournament has so far been trouble free, FIFA's policy also made it harder for fans to pass their tickets onto friends and colleagues.

It is a legal requirement to carry a passport at all times. For ID you don't have to worry about losing make a photocopy of the first page and carry that with you.

Went to the game in Gelsenkirchen with a buddy of mine, by the way terribly disappointing, but he didn't get his passport checked but I did. It appears to be random checks and I just happened to be the one that got it. Just asked for my passport glanced at it and handed it back to me and said thank you.

Hey guys

Both my wife and I got checked at Gelsenkirchen (blue section, right after gate opened). The guy next to me was a German, and he said they did not check his.

Sorry to hijack, but it was mentioned and I wanted a clarification--are we allowed to take digital cameras in with us? I don't have a camcorder, but I'd like to bring a digital camera with me for pictures at the stadium.

Yeah, I've seen lots of shots of people with cameras. I'm just wondering how hard I should try to hide the camera, if at all. It's a nice digital camera, so I'd hate to lose it.

The security person who checked me at Gelsenkirchen found my digital camera (clevely concealed in the main pocket of my handbag ;)) and showed no interest in it at all.

Didn't have my passport checked either btw.

We checked with fan embassy, and they said it is OK. Took camera to Veltins, no problem.

I went to the game in Geselkirchen and they checked my passport. I arrived early and there were no lines. My advice is to arrive when the turnstiles are crowded if you are worried about having your passport checked. There will be a greater incentive for the inspectors to keep the line moving.

My understanding is that cameras are ok. When they checked my bag I told them I had a camera in it and they let me pass. I think the only restriction (from the back of the ticket) is not using images of the game for commercial purposes.

In Berlin Today for the Germany Ecuador match

do not bend or let your tickets get folded in any way, my ticket was damaged (bent) and it wrecked the chip inside it, (not the silver square in the upper right corner) and I was redirected to a private meeting with security. They checked my passport and ticket against the computer records and after clearing my identification they hand wrote me a duplicate of my ticket.

my brother's ticket for the Italy game hadnot been bent in any way and the machine couldn'y read his chip either and it seemed while we waited just inside that this was happening to quite a few people in line they had a few trailers set up outside where they I assume did just what Mainer5 said

I bought my group stage tickets games from touts, and my husband was asked for his passport at two of the three games that we went to. He just said that he doesn't carry his passport and they let him in. We did see another couple get asked for their passport at the England Sweden game, which they showed, but it didn't match their tickets as they had bought them from touts. However, after a bit of 'too-ing and fro-ing' they were eventually let in. Bascially, it doesn't really matter. After all they don't want half empty stadiums!
