Worst game thus far.

Any win against Paraguay is a good win, but if England play that brand of football against T&T as well, I'm rooting for Sweden to kick the crap out of them.

Once again overhyped England shows what they actually have and dissapoint everybody.
Paraguay lost because their coach is a puss. and won't put in Cuevas and Dos Santos from the start.

Boring game! I hope England lose the next two matches and go back home.

hum, i hope i never see that crouch guy play ever again. he offends football.
england were lucky, i felt paraguay could tie the game if they really wanted.

Is it just me or did England get the rough end of the pineapple with the ref's decisions? And honestly Crouch's yellow card = a joke. Apart from that, meh, England won, but should have been more, and basically just boring.

Wish I could go back in time and sleep in.
England looks like a team without forwards, hopefully for them Rooney really does come back in the form he was in when he left.
Also, their midfielders on paper are terrific but sometimes they don't seem to play well together.
Of course, PAraguay didn't really test them much so its probably best not to draw too many conclusions on England's performance.

That game belonged in World Cup 1990.

Englands tactics killed the game, unfortunatly for neutrals Sven will take this as a great result and most likely use this again. He can't see that a team like Sweden will take England apart if they play like that again.
Defence, Midfield and Attack were all totally detacted in the 2nd half. Lampard and Gerrard failed to control central midfield during the 2nd half.
Crouch can't play up front alone.

Yup, that was definitely a snorefest.
Own goal in the first few minutes and nothing exciting the rest of the game.

Valdez, J. Cole and Bubadilla were the only guys that showed up to play today. England looked really flat and were lucky to get three instead of one point.

The calls will come almost immediately for Sven to play Rooney--whether he's ready or not. Twinkletoes Crouch couldn't get it going, and Owen isn't yet at full strength, although he wasn't terrible.
Lampard and Gerrard both had individual moments of good play, but again as always they didn't play well as a unit. Joe Cole looked god for stretches, and Beckham was decent though he faded out of the game the last 30 mins.
Meh... very disappointing game from a neutral standpoint.

Take heart - it's 3 points, no major injuries and they will put 3 or 4 in against the Trinis.

It goes without saying that England's early goal was what made this game hard to watch. The more emphasis England put on defending, the duller the game got. Towards the end of the game I found myself rooting for Paraguay, simply because I don't like catenaccio-like tactics.
At least neither team played particularly dirty; in that sense, it was a good game.

Unfortunately for England, Sven's stubborness could cost them dearly. I would love to see them run a 3-4-3 once Rooney comes back, with Rooney, owen and Crouch up the front, with Lampard, Cole, Gerrard and becks middling and Cole, Terry and Ferdinand up the back, would be much more attacking and evenly spread.

That game really was disappointing. England was lucky to win after an early own goal, they didn’t make the impression to achieve a lot on their own today. Their play was typically boring Eriksson-style, not a lot to see of their former offensive spirit. Paraguay on the other hand hardly made the impression that they want to win a point
Also, after two good ref performances yesterday this one was really getting on my nerves. He didn’t allow a fluent game with his permanent whistles and interruptions.

Well said Ballakisgott,
Crouch was being pounded on by the ref all game. I'll take the 1-0 victory, afterall it's the 3 points that matter.

That's the kind of game one should expect when playing Paraguay. IIRC they played 0-0 with Brazil last year in qualifying. In 2002 Germany barely got past them with 1-0 and got to the finals, in '98 France scored in ET and won the whole thing. I doubt Sweden would be able to get a win against them. The bottom line is that England pretty much guaranteed a spot in the next round with this win, and that's the most important thing.

However it still fails to surprise when you constantly see players(not England) who roll over, holding their face in pain as if the apocalypse is coming, and yet have barely been touched, something which you don't see Beckham, Ronaldinho or Henry doing. thats more annoying than anything, and although it didn't happen much tonight, those 4-5 times can put people of this great game.
