lol ,3 points is all that counts.
paraguay had one shot on goal in the entire game.
The last two world cup games from Paraguay I have been astounding at how little they are interested in using Cuevas.
Put him in at the begining of the second half or start him and let him tire out the opponent at the beginning.
No, he may not be the guy to tactically start but he has to much energy not to be a big part.

What are you talking about? Did you see the Ecuador match?
Still the Ecuador-Poland game ment more. And with Lara Ecuador should be even more inspiring.

Your also forgetting on the ball skill.

In the first half, England lacked the final ball to get more goals, though Crouch was better than many on this forum think he was, it just the final balls from Joe Cole and sometimes Beckham wasn't there.
The second half was completely horrible thinks to in the tone of Steven A. Smith, S VEN GO-RAN Ericks-SON, please, goodness gracious. The conservatice laid back tactics rear its ugly head again. Owen hargeaves in the game, oh yeah, like we haven't learned enough from his performances and all, have we Sven. And Downing had a nice few runs, but Owen deserved more minutes.
Roque Santa Cruz, was no where to be found and I ask, should he have even played or been subdued off early? That's the question I have.
I have to agree with all of this.
I'll add that I think England wilted in the heat; 3 PM matches are going to be like USA 94.
Paraguay gained confidence through the match. They were not particularly impressive, but I could see them getting a tie against Sweden, and win against T&T to get through.
Without the lucky Engerland goal in the 4th minute, we could have been looking at all four B teams with one point.

Yeah, when I saw him I was wondering why he didn't start, he look good on the ball, but he did pass sourly and didn't go back on defence.

Well I think the poor passes came because of the press and the fact he didn't look up enough but the deffense now that could be a problem against the Sweeds.

Cuevas is more of a second half guy, he's not very effective as a starter, and the key is also defense, that's the main reason Dos Santos was left out of this game he could have put some order in the middle, don't be suprised if cuevas doesn't start the next game even if Roque doesn't play

I hope Roque does play, as a sub though.

Paraguay looked better than Sweden today, they just had a better shape. In my mind you have to fancy England to go through and probably win the group, but I'd tip Paraguay to go through as well.

I Hope not, I think we had enough with this Daily soap opera of his , is he playing is he not??? well it ended up with him "playing" but not doing anything, I think he is hurt and we do have some quality strikers in our bench , I would hope Dante lopez gets to start the next game and bring Cuevas in for the second half.

Well Ruiz doesnīt nkow abaut football, Santa Cruz wasnīt fit, but against I was hoping Paraguay to lose, but the ones who should be worry are the Englands, Crouch is crap, he is like 2 heads taller than Gamarra and Caceres and canīt win a head to head situation, Gerrard, Lampard etc: I was hoping them to own Acuņa, Riveros and Bonet, but no they just looked like a really sad midfield, honestly if they want to win the wq they will have to pray for Rooney.
By the way Valdez play really well today, does anybody sees future to this guy?

Yes, and I saw Ecuador score two goals, twice as many as this whole group so far.

Boring as F*ck match as I thought it would be. typical Sven Boring Eriksson rubbish in an opening match. As for Ecuador they may be the 2nd best in the most rubbish group in the tournament. Don't fancy anyone but Germany to make it to the Qaurters and they will do so only because of home nation status.

Tall guys are always gonna get looked at closely by the refs. Crouch is clearly not up to WC standard.
well he was all of england's attack (not nearly enough).

Y-E-S. If he gets on the scoresheet next match, expect some managers to break out their checkbooks for him. I think he's the first real discovered gem of the tournament.

I was very very very disappointed with England. I don't like them much, but I thought being so OVERRATED they would at least do better than this. ALL this hype about England will stop, and it will stop now after they show just how good they are against Paraguay. Yes, I thought the match was pitiful, it reminds me of the Greece matches where I have tears in my eyes b/c they play like snails.

England Always Start Slow to the big competitions.
I.e. Euro 2004 = Last-minute loss to france
WC 2002 = Sweden 1-1
As an england fan i am not worried. For quite a few players this is thier 1st world cup and this match helped them get used to it And for the whole team to get used to the conditions. England dont particularly need to work hard to get through this group.
"Crouch is crap, he is like 2 heads taller than Gamarra and Caceres and canīt win a head to head situation"
Crouch is used More to knock it down for owen/rooney. In the 2nd half england went to 4-4-1-1 formation and he was isolated. The best is still to come for crouch. He has a good touch for such a large player As Santa cruz Said.
"Gerrard, Lampard etc: I was hoping them to own Acuņa, Riveros and Bonet, but no they just looked like a really sad midfield,"
Many people think that Gerrard/lampard cannot play on the same team. I think that they cannot play level to eachother. I think england might try the Formation Carrick-Lampard-Gerrard. This could work well.
I also think they were just having an off day, Gerrard just recovered from a back injury.
Overall I think england was having an off-day. But this is a positive sign because When teams like chelsea have an off-day they still manage to win and that is how to win cups.
