England up 1-nil after 3 minutes.

Becks sends a free kick in, Owen goes up between two Paraguay defenders and the paraguay skipper(divalra?) heads the ball into his own net.

Sub for Paraguay as their first keeper goes off injuried.

How clueless are these broadcasters in the US?

They display a complete ineptitude for the game of soccer or the culture surrounding it. One of the goofballs detailed how Beckham has never lived up to his hype and is not the greatest player the in world. Duh. He's a great player, but I don't think anyone has ever confused greatest and most popular.

And, for anyone else that heard it, "What's a geezer?" SHEESH.

It's a London word for a 'Bloke'

Lanesra, I know that...I guess I should've clarified for those of you watching better broadcasts.

They were discussing a visit by Prince William to the England training camp. They quoted one of the England players (J. Cole, i think) who said William was "an alright geezer." The other announcer said, "What's a geezer?"

Yea I gotta second that point - I have heard O'Brien call Met games before here in NY and baseball on ESPN - he is a more than able broadcaster BUT its like he and marcelo(who is TERRIBLE!!) got a memo from ABC brass saying they need to mention Beckham anytime they are not describing a play(either it was someone on Paraguay dissing Beckham last month, or something about Beckham's wife, or about how Joe Cole and Beckham happen to be great friends, or about Beckham maybe moving into the middle in years to come, or about Beckham being real famous or you get the point) --- it makes me long for adrian healey and tommy smyth - which is a sure sign ABC is doing something wrong

* off the soapbox

That makes more sense :)

Anyone else catch O'Brien (a baseball commetator) call Becks "Beckett" :o.

the pundits have been driving me NUTS. whoever that PBP guy is (o'brien?), he's frikkin' awful. sounds like he's seen 3 games in his entire life, and he's reading useless stats off a teleprompter.

among many, the most offensive to my ears is when he describes a player as 'handling' the ball - he's CONTROLLING it, you dipshit! handling is a foul/penalty!

ugh. agreed with longing for healy/smythe. these guys make them look positively full of brilliant insight!

Not sure what was worse, the announcers or the match. At least there are two left. Was anyone else pissed that Balboa kept insisting that Paraguay should just pack it in. There was like 20 minutes to go and they are only down a goal and he's saying that they shouldn't take any chances. What a jackass.

I'm almost disappointed that I got up early for that. The early goal killed the game; Sven packed it in and the boys sent way too many long balls.

Can someone explain how it's possible for so many crosses to sail over someone who's 6'7"?

That was lame, but anything's better than spending 90 minutes listening to Tommy Smith explain his own jokes...

Ya that is bad. I really liked the team that did the Poland-Ecuador match yesterday.

I'm just waiting for O'brien to refer a goal kick as a Deep Fly Ball

Dellacamera and Harkes are announcing the T&T-Swe match; they can't be any worse than the last two.

If TnT could keep their shots in the general vicinity of the 6 yard box they'd have a chance...

My guess is Sweden wakes up and scores 2 in the second.
