Hi,

I have a question on how teams are ranked inthe group stage.

In previous World Cups, the ranking in the group stages has determined by: 1) points, 2) goal difference in all matches, 3) goals scored in all matches 4) ....

However, in Qualifying for 2006, the rankings were determined by 1) points 2) points from games played ONLY BETWEEN TEAMS TIED ON POINTS, 3) goal difference of the teams tied on points, 4) THEN goal difference in all games 5) ...

I assume that the tie-breakers are being done as in previous World Cups, that is goal difference in all three games is what counts, but I have not seen a description of the rules on any of the official web pages. This could potentially make a difference in the rankings of the teams in the group stages.

Can someone confirm the tie breaker rules, or better yet, provide a link to an official version of the rules.

Thanks.
