Match 5

Ref: DE BLEECKERE (BEL)
AR1: Hermans (BEL)
AR2: Vromans (BEL)
4th: Poulat (FRA)

I personally think this is going to be one of the toughest matches to officiate. I also think De Bleeckere is a good choice.

I'd give him the Argentina dive leading to the caution if him or his AR had gotten the one in Argentina's end right in front of the AR with him close in. You've got to do your homework and be aware of this.

Wasn't running as well towards the end.

Took the Argentina keeper's bait when he rolled the free kick three yards outside the goal area (where the offense occured). Ate 30-40 seconds putting the ball back.

7/10

I didn't think he was that bad. He allowed a good game of football to flow, and used man-management. The only caution I'd quibble is Eboue, as I think he was fooled by the dive of the Argentine. Which is my only real criticism - that he was fooled by several dives by Argentinians - Sorin in particular, who was really starting to get on my tits - yet waved played on when an Ivory Coast player went to ground theatrically.

As for the 'goal', I don't think it crossed the line. I don't think the whole of the ball crossed the whole of the line, and as it was from a play near the goal line, I suspect the person with the best view in the ground was the AR, so if he says it didnt cross the line, I suspect it didn't. The only camera angle I've seen it from also looks deceptive. Anyway, at the moment, it makes no difference.

I'll be consistent, and give Frank 77/100.

Three minutes of stoppage time was announced, and exactly three minutes was given -- despite the substitution by Argentina that occurred in stoppage time. Would three minutes have been the announcement if he only planned to give 2:30? Or did he just fail to add more time for the substitution? This didn't sit well with me.

I didn't care for the caution to Eboue, and the referee did not deal with Abondanzieri's time-wasting in the 2nd half at all. Not even a warning that was clear to everyone.

Let a lot of good strong challenges go (which I liked), and booked Gabriel Heinze early (which I also liked...it's called marking, Gabriel, not mugging!).
