Letīs go Ticos!

The Ticos just don't seem to have the size and talent needed on the backline. I will root for CR, but Eduador was awfully impressive today. Of course, having a neutral field will surely help somewhat.

Unfortunately, I didn't see the Ecuador game today. However, the Ticos did indeed show themselves to be a dangerous team. It certainly isn't out of the question that they can get a result, if they make a commitment to moving the ball a little quicker. They seemed to want to dribble too much today, and invariably lost the ball for counters. However, Wanchope is a beast, and if Gomez can find his rhythm ........ watch out!

ecuador are really looking in good shape. i think the 2 goal win today will help should things become tight. their defense looked pretty solid, particuarly the veteran hurtado. i hope he is arlight though following his slight injury.

i really think this game will be a pleasure to watch. two latin sides. something like costa rica - brazil could be in store. im excited.

Who wins this match will move on to the next round... Poland will be already out for their final game with CR.... Anyone's game.

Except .... in a similar position four years ago, Poland destroyed the US in the third game.

After watching both games today, I think the next matches in the group will play out more closely. I think Ecuador and CR match-up well, should be a great game. I like Ecuador's keeper, Mora, so I'm gonna say Ecuador 2-1 Cost Rica

Come on Costa Rica. Its weird that a Costa Rica supporter is cheering for Germany against Poland but im going for Costa Rica vs Ecuador.

Just the many ways the group works,

Here is what im hoping for rest of tournament.

Poland draws with Germany
Costa Rica beat Ecuador
Germany beat Ecuador
Poland beat Costa Rica

Have to have hope it can happen :)

I also saw both games today; the first game looked pretty even untill Germany pulled it off at the secound half. Costa Ricas coach quoted that his team wasn't as speedy as the Germans, so I saw the Ticos use the counter-attack very good today, that is how they scored both of their goals. Germanies biggest flaw was the defence. But when Costa Rica plays Ecuador they are going to find themselfs against a brick wall. After I saw the Ecuador game today against the Polish I'm confident that we have a great defence, and see it har for the Ticos to break it down. But in soccer anything can happen. i really like Costa Rica, I lie how they play sow I predict a 0-0 game between the two. If Ballack comes back for the next game I think the Germans would want to win this game, that way they will have bagged a place in the next round before the game against Ecuador.

After what I saw in the first round i'll say: Costa Rica 2 - Ecuador 1. Despite the loss to a stronger rival they made a bigger impression than La Tri. I liked Centeno (?) the best. In a week this group will be over.

P.S. and in the last match we will beat already promoted Costa Rica (replay from 2002)

Correct, Centeno is awesome.... what is the (?) for??? his name? Walter!, his number? #10, his nickname?? Pate!, his club??? SAPRISSA! :), other club he has played for? AEK Athens (Gre), most important goals? @Santiago Bernabeu, vs Real Madrid and @ Olimpico vs Roma, both in the Uefa champions league, 3 or 4 years ago.

no way :D

p.s. way! we're going to win comfortably ;)

p.p.s. now i'm going to play Fifa World Cup and make the socres right. You know this one (from before the World Cup)? - What does a polish fan do after advancing from the group stage? - Turns off his playstation :D or this one - the shortest joke of 'em all - Polska gola!! hahaha

Just watched the Ec/Pol match (via DVR) and Espinoza is a top notch defender. The guy was a rock, and the rest of the Ec team played solid team defense - well organized. They gave up a lot of possession to Poland, and they need to work on this since CR will move the ball around well. Should be a damn good match.

well, just to let everyone know, we did beat Costa Rica in San Jose last year. Yes, none of the 2 teams fielded all their top players, but it is a good indication of things to come. Costa Rica is a familiar opponent, and they also know Ecuador well, and so, there will be no surprises.
Costa Rica's defence is not the greatest, and if Ecuador can show up as the same team who convincenly beat Poland, this match should be 3-1 in favor of Ecuador.

1st off, I just want to say how tickled to death I am about Ecuador beating Poland yesterday. It truely was a victory to be remembered and thankfully, I got to see it with my father. Over the years, we've seen a lot of defeats, so it's nice to get a victory of this magnitude. I do however want to caution any Ecuadorians who feel that we are pretty much a lock to classify into the next round. Costa Rica is not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination. Those of you that have follwed Ecuadorian soccer over the years know that Ecuadorian players have had many "let downs". I do think that over all, our players may be just a bit better....and I do stress just a bit. This game will come down to who has the biggest heart. I really do hope that Ecuador comes out and leaves everything they've got out on the field. If not, we will be talking about another classic "let down". Just like the semi-final game in Copa America '92.

Wow!! So based on your line up Costa Rica is going at it all the way. But how do you think this 4-3-3, or 4-3-2-1, work for Costa Rica? Is it going to be a static formation, or will Guimaraes have another 2 formations depending on how the game goes?

Well the line up that I see Ecuador is:

Mora 4-4-2
De la Cruz Hurtado Espinosa Reasco

Valencia Tenorio Mendes Lara

Tenorio Delgado/Kaviedes

This is how it's going to look on the board. Plus this style of play Ecuador has used since 1995 with Maturana, and it's still used by Suarez. But once on the field and during the game all lines are going to be close to each other; even trying to set up a offsides trap. Ecuador has been known for having a solid defence. Once I saw the Germany-Costa Rica game I could tell that Costa Rica have been left flat-footed on many occasions. If Costa Rica plays a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1, they better watch out for the Ecuadorian counter attack. But scoring two goals on Germany in their field is no little thing, I saw the last game played in Costa Rica last year were we won,(barely) and I could tell that they are no easy team. I predict a 1-1 score between the teo sides. But you know we all cheer for our national team which is logical but when you put your heart asside and see things how they are their not going to go your way all the time. Go La Tri & Go Ticos. But you know; Let the best team win!!!!!!!!!!
