Sorry, but I don't think Ecuador is anything special, my amateurs team could have beaten the Poles if they were to play like this. To the Polish NT:

in my mind this was an upset. the Poles are in big trouble now unless they can get something out of the Germany game.

Poland have to hope that Costa Rica can get something against Ecuador now, because this leaves them up shit creek. I think looking at it, you would think the winner of this would go onto to qualify behind Germany.
Overall I was very impressed with Ecuador, they seemed a side that were a bit more determined than in 2002 and defended ruggedly at times and have shut up several of the critics who said they can’t win outside of the high altitude of Quito.
As for Poland, they continue to amaze me. Qualify with ease for the WC but suck at the finals stage. They were just poor tonight, they had nothing upfront - no presence at all.
MOTM for me was Espinoza, he was just immense at the back for Ecuador.

Great Ecuador victory! , It goes to show South American qualifiers are no picnic, that's for those who expected an easy win for Poland, they will now say it was a surprising result because they don't know crap about South American football. At least some of us had predicted an Ecuador victory.

I've just seen the second replay of the Ecuador 2nd goal. Yeah he was onside, I'll take my inital thought back, but it was very close.

Man, what's up with Poland and their habit of stinking up their first game of the last few World Cups? That's got to be mystifying to their fans. Well...
Props to Ecuador! Go hard boys! This sets up a huge game for Ecuador v. CR. The way they looked today Ecuador has to feel confident they can beat CR and advance. Looks like Poland is gonna have to upset Germany and beat CR and hope for the best...

i think a lot of people were too quick to pass judgment on ecuador. yeah, they got most of their points from qualifying at home in the high altitude...but i think you're still a good team if you can beat both argentina and brazil.
im more confident now that they will make it past the group stage. they looked very good today.
I don't see it as particularly an upset. Poland is probably the poorest European qualifier and Ecuador are no mugs. Ecuador defended with a lot of determination but generally a mediocre game, imo.

Poland choked in this game and it has to be the lineup playing 4-5-1 when they shouldve went with the 4-4-2.
I feel bad for Poland as I was cheering for them but they didnt score.
The second ecuador goal was offside but it doesnt matter.
Poland will need a miracle to get out of the group now.
Congrats to ecuador-you did deserve the 3 points

The only worry is that Ecuador seemed to start gettting winded near the end, while Poland didn't.

Espinoza did it for Ecuador.
But despite the Poles poor playing, they have debunked the High Altitude myth, not only benefitial to themselves, but now Costa Rica, and the rest of the world know it to.
Confidence will go a long way...

well they gave england a run for their money in qualifying. i would argue that switzerland are probably the weakest. we dont have a slovenia this time around for Europe. really, all the teams can make it out of their group.
