You can't really compare these two. Van der Vaart lost his starting spot and because of all his injuries it came to the point that Ajax wanted to get rid of him. That's the reason for the low transfer fee of around €5M. I doubt any major club was interested in Rafa.

Sneijder is probably their best overall player and also consistent and not injury prone. I read a few days ago he's valued at around €12M in Holland which is still a reasonable price. The "problem" is he's ready to move to England, Spain or Italy. Milan and Barca are after him, I doubt he'd have much trouble breaking into their starting lineups.

getting sneijder is an absolute pipe dream....from the first post on him - i have realized that....
Sneijder is probably their best player at Ajax (although Huntelaar's talent is amazing - but new coach and tactics have caused a disappointing season for Hunter and club)
although I have a high regard for Sneijder....to assume that he wont have much trouble to break into the starting lineups of Barca and Milan is ludicrous....barca is loaded with mf talent (van bommel rode pine there and he was coming off a fantastic season at PSV).....milan - probably not... their new kid Yohann Gourcuff is going to be very very good....sneijder is not a def mf....where would he play?....unless Kaka moves to Spain?
to conclude my banter - i do think that Sneijder will probably end up in England....probably for the Spurs....i dont think the top 4 will be interested at this point...

i was responding to his focking comment about comparing Dos Santos and Jakub...sorry

I didn't take that comment seriously either. However, I will wait to judge for myself.

Yep. I covered it yesterday here. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10781833&postcount=315

The report seems to be pure speculation, but it would make sense as Basturk has strong ties to the Ruhr Valley area.

BVB would have a good shot at him as long as Bayern are not interested also.

But I've had many also speculate that he's Bayern's "mystery signing" for midfield next season.

I think we'll know more after the season.

I do hope we get him. Not only for his play, but the fans will love to have another player with links to the area.

BTW, today's "kicker" links BVB with another player with links to the area. KSC's 2. Liga leading goalscorer Giovanni Federico. He's from Hagen (About 30 minutes southwest of Dortmund by car).

Another source last week had Hertha with an interest w/ Federico, I think he would be a quality pickup for both of our teams.

Today's kicker does mention the Hertha interest, but I think they are assuming BVB has the upper hand because Federico is a "local boy".

Me? I'd think Hertha would have the upper hand as you guys are pushing for a UEFA Cup spot....... :o

I don't know what to make of Federico. Haven't seen him play that often. Anyway, a transfer where you can't make so much wrong.

I've watched KSC quite a bit this year. Can play well as a striker or an attacking midfielder. Very good finisher. Doesn't miss often.

You can if you get the player and misuse him.

Something our guys seem to be masters at........

Where have you been anyhow??

Today's kicker speculates that Metzelder not only has interest from Juve and Inter (Previously reported in Germany), but he may have interest from London too. Kicker speculates Chelsea and Arsenal, but honestly, I can't see either one being interested or his being interested in going to either one because he wouldn't play much at either one.

Apparently, since BVB management wants to know what they have to do, Metzelder will supposedly give them a decision sometime next week. Funny, they made him wait long enough for a freakin' offer.

BTW, in the kicker article, they say Watzke describes BVB's offer to Metzelder as "excellent."

However, as I've said in other threads and on the e-mail list, I don't have much trust in Herr Watzke and management these days....

From what I can see from the kicker article, his choices are Inter, Juve or returning to BVB.

I hope he returns, but would not blame him one little bit if he decides to leave.

I have a feeling Barca have an interest in him too.

Well, a Westline article I translated on this situation today has me throughly convinced that BVB are pushing him out the door.

And it disgusts me.

BTW, the kicker speculation of Chelsea and Arsenal was bad on my part. They were reporting that Joerg Neubauer, Metze's agent, said jokingly that after a sponsorship appointment in London on Monday (I'll bet it was with Nike), "perhaps he visited Chelsea or Arsenal....."

If he were to leave BVB, I'd LOVE for him to go to Barca. He and Rafa Marquez would be a great combination!

Would work for Nike too....... ;)

Actually Rafa has been playing like shit lately, and Edmilson is getting old, I was thinking Puyol-Metzelder.

wow.

Nah. I think Rafa is staying right there. Metze would either play with him or ride the bench a la Thuram.

I love CMetz, but I'd take Rafa over him any day.

so they would bring in Metzelder and bench their captain Puyol? hahaha...he's the hometown hero too! i doubt Metzelder goes there, and if he does...it is as a substitute on the bench. i think Marquez is the weaker of the two right now when it comes to form, but I don't see a german coming in to replace Puyol

No man. The bench scenario would be right.

This is just "what if" discussion.

BVB today officially rescinded the Metzelder contract offer.

Not a surprise to me. It's what they planned all along as far as I am concerned.
