No, he won't. That's why Bayern are going to give Deisler his shot to finally claim his spot in the center or buy a playmaker. They have no intention of asking Schweinsteiger to do so.

Deisler has retired from proffecional football.

Yes, making it even more imperative that Bayern get a new central midfielder during this transfer window.

Their only other alternatives are either playing RSC there or keeping Ali Karimi.

But, we are discussing that enough over at the Bayern sub-forum. This all came out of a "Difference between a #10 and #7" discussion.....

Schneider is more of an attacker. His playmaking skills are OK, but there's a reason Leverkusen have never asked him to do it full time. Even though Leverkusen has been missing a playmaker since Basturk left.....

I always thought schneider was better as a playmaker...

Holy shit, that deisler news was a shock!!

I don't think so. They never used him there unless they were forced to.

Yeah. I expected him to retire either after the season or if he got hurt again. He really f#cked Bayern by doing it now.... ;)

German.

Dude, BVB squashed that rumor two weeks ago.

Check out the official site. The story is there in English.

pet "ruhr nachrichten" report - Smolarek is 'considering' offers and would prefer to get transferred to EPL or La Liga.....
also - a 5th place russian club has made an offer and Zorc (whom I trust as far as I can throw him) did not denounce Ebi's availability, and in fact, left an open door on the transfer....

Dude, I didn't say Ebi wasn't available, I said they quashed the Man City rumors and they did.

Check the official site. It's all right there.

There are no mainstream media reports about BVB being after anyone else.

On the contrary. There's a story at BVB.de that says Pienaar has earned a new chance......

BVB seem interested in 17y old talent Stevan Jovetic of Partizan Belgrade.

I saw that in "kicker" yesterday and I was not f#cking happy about it.

He's supposed to be this "super talent", but do we really need another teenager on a team that's so young already???

I say no. I say we need someone with at least a bit of Bundesliga experience.

Get this kid for the future? Sure. No problem.

Is he what we need now? Unless he's Bundesliga-ready, I don't think so.

Juventus Reportedly Interested In Metzelder - Kicker quoting Tuttosport in German (http://www.kicker.de/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/360388/)

If this is true, this would give Watzke the perfect excuse to let Metzelder walk away and bring in "his boy" Westermann.

Watzke will simply say they could not match any Juventus offer.

If Metzelder gets away, I will not forgive Watzke or Zorc......

Not for a little while anyhow. ;)

How reliable do you think that report is?

Also, how good is westermann?

I do not trust that source. Maybe Juve want Metzelder...ok. But I am 100% sure that the claimed 3.5 mio Euro salary he asked from Inter last summer is pure fiction.

If he comes cheap, then yea you should get him. I don't think he matches with the hype of Sahin though, but I dunno anything about him, so thats where I end this post :D

How reliable do you think that report is?

Not very, but the report isn't what I really focused on. It's giving Watzke any excuse to let Metze walk.

It is a conspiracy theory on my part, but I think Watzke, our Managing Director and financial guru, wants to build "his team."

Also, how good is westermann?

Rated as one of the best up and coming young German central defenders, but honestly, I don't rate him any higher than I do Martin Amedick.

I admit that a few months ago I was for letting Metzelder go and bringing in Westermann. What changed my mind? The two appearances Metzelder had just before the break. The guy showed that when he is healthy, he is still one of the best.

I don't think Borussia would be smart in gambling that Metzelder will not stay healthy and that Westermann will realize his promise.

If BVB TRULY cannot keep Metzelder, then I will try to understand. However, Metzelder is also one of the guys I consider "true BVB". And to be honest, the guys on the team I can say that about are Metzelder, Ricken, Wörns, Dede, Kringe, Kruska, Kehl and Weidenfeller. I think Sahin, Amedick and Tyrala are on their way to that status. I would have put Smolarek on the "true BVB" list, but I think they are going to run him away because he's seen as a "BvM guy". Very unfair to Ebi, but I think that is what is going to happen.

Yes, that seems like a lot of guys, but those are guys who are important to what you are trying to do. I didn't realize it while he was out, but Metzelder is important to this team. Not just on the pitch, but in the locker room too. That is the part Heiko Westermann just will not be able to replace.

I don't know anything about him (Stevan Jovetic) admittedly. I just don't know that what BVB needs right now is another teenager.

Unless this kid is truly ready to come in and run central midfield or play striker for an aspiring UEFA Cup contender.

Today's "kicker" referred to Jovetic as an "offensive all-arounder." But Zorc said this transfer would only happen "if something changes from the Partizan side."

Today's "kicker" also confirmed that Steven Pienaar is off the market and will remain with BVB for the rest of the season. It also said that as of Sunday, BVB had received no offers for Smolarek or Amoah.

EDIT: KC from the e-mail list corrected my bad translation of Zorc's comments:

Small correction: Zorc's quote doesn't mean that "if something happens on the Partizan side". It means that if BVB sell another player in Jan, then there would be a need to take action on the BVB side.

KC

My take: I don't see who BVB are going to sell besides Smolarek and they aren't exactly beating down the door for him. I think it would be stupid to sell Ebi anyhow.......

Hey footyfan (or anyone else fluent in german), as with the klose link from kicker about the AC Milan Interest, was there a similar statement from Juventus in the kicker article confirming interest for Metzelder?

Ie. A non-tabloid source or reference.

Metzelder's agent has stated that "some Italian clubs and other foreign parties" have indeed showed interest in Metzelder, but did not identify any of the clubs.

He also said he thinks Metzelder is leaving since the club is not talking to him about an extension. He's also said that if Metzelder leaves Dortmund, he will leave Germany.

Yes I think he would leave germany altogether if he does leave.

Oh right, so where did this juventus link in the kicker article come from?

From an Italian rumor. Metzelder's agent made his comments well after that "kicker" article ran. And he made it clear that more than one Italian team is interested.

Personally, I think AC Milan have to be interested. They have to be thinking of FINALLY putting Maldini out to pasture.

Am I to take your comments to mean that you don't believe what I posted from Metzelder's agent??

Yes I think he would leave germany altogether if he does leave.

I have no reason to doubt his agent.

No I believed what you said, but I was wondering why you didn't mention juventus by name, because that's what the kicker article's main storyline was.

I thought you got the agent's revelations from the kicker article which is why I was wondering why you didn't mention juventus.

No. Got Metzelder's agent's comments from another source.

I got it now. The first comments were a bit confusing. Thanks for clearing it up.
