Swiss Cup Servette-Basel [r]

I am betting that Basel will take out a bit of their embarrasement from saturdays loss. I would love for Servette to win, but I see that not very likley. The game is at 13h30 est, tuseday.

Here is a quick pre-game report:
"This tuseday (19h30), the FC Basel recieves Servette FC to complete the last round of 16 game in the Swiss Cup. The winner of this confrontation will go to Bern to play the Young Boys, the 25 or the 26 or March.

After their backstep at Neuchâtel (3-1), the team from Basel wants to move forward again. The defence of one of their trophies, taken last may, will be the prize. For this meeting, Christian Gross is counting on Smiljanic in défense and the return of Cantaluppi in the midfield. In attack, Tum replaces Rossi, who is serving his second match of his suspension.

For their side, Servette picks up official competition again. As predicted, the Geneva goal will be defended by Sébastien Roth, Jaquet finds his positon as the axis the defense works on while Hilton slides into the midfield. The author of three goals in three friendly matchs, Galvao hopes to make people forget about Frei's departure.
A final note, these two teams play again, saturday for the second match of the final tour.

Basel goes on top 1-0 in the 31' minute with a goal by Mario Cantaluppi (pen.). Boooo!

Apparently Servette rolled over after the 2nd minute. Hopefully they learned their lesson and will play better on the weekend...

There was no miracle for Servette. At St- Jakobs Park, the team from Geneva did not weigh very heavily on the FC Basel in the round of 16 matchin the Swiss Cup. Beaten 2-0, they were passed up in every facet of the match.

The Basels imposed themselves thanks to a penalty by Cantaluppi in the 35e minute and a strike by Chipperfield in the 51e. Led on by an inspired Hakan Yakin, they flew over this meeting, which was followed by "only" 10 721 spectators, the smallest amount to watch an offical match since the new St. Jakobs Prk was opened. The comparison of corner kicks (15-1) underlines the domination ecercised by the team of Christian Gross."

The new Servette striker Galvao had a chance in the second minute that went off his head into the arms of the Basel keeper. After that, Servette was infeffective.

This looks to be a long spring for Servette. This saturday, I imagine that the game will be another one of domination for Basel.
