They split the games. Usually the better matches are on PPV.

Actually, it doesn't. My understanding is that FSC will now air the Saturday 10:00AM and Sunday 11:00AM matches while Setanta Sports will be carrying the Saturday 7:45AM match as well as the Sunday 9:00AM match (which wasn't available previously). So you will have to pay for Setanta Sports channel which is $11.95 per month and, presently, is only available on DirecTV.

I've heard Dish Network is possiblily going to get Setanta soon but that's just a rumor at this point.

Is this rumor from word of mouth, or somewhere on the internet?

If it's from internet, source?

2005-2006: Saturday - 7:30 AM (ET) live on FSC, 10:00 AM live on PPV, 12:00 PM live on FSC, plus FSC has a delayed game at 3:00. Sunday - 8:30 AM on FSC but delayed to 1:00 PM, 11:00 AM live on PPV. Weekday matches live on FSC.

2006-2007 apparently: 7:30 AM live on Setanta, 10:00 AM & 12:00 PM live on FSC, plus FSC has a delayed game at 3:00 PM. Sunday - 8:30 AM live on Setanta, 11:00 AM live on FSC. Weekday matches I'm not sure about.

So we lose the early Saturday game (usually good) and the delayed early Sunday game (usually not so good), but gain the main Saturday game (usually good) and the late Sunday game (often the best of the week).

I'd say that's a net gain.

I've heard Dish Network is possiblily going to get Setanta soon but that's just a rumor at this point.

The president of Setanta North America was interviewed on World Soccer Daily and said that they are in negotiations with Dish Network and have offered them the same deal that they have with DirecTV. He said he doesn't know what Dish's problem is, however, he expects them to finally pickup Setanta Sports within the next six months.

Dish announced a bunch of new things in the last few days but none of it involves Setanta so don't expect anything anytime soon. That said it is expected that the weekend live PPV EPL package is being eliminated so Dish may be forced to sign up with Setanta in order to make up for the lost subscription and weekly PPV EPL package revenue.

DISH might've been annoyed at Setanta for partnering with DirecTV at the start. Remember that DISH had contractual satellite exclusivity on Gol TV for the first 2-3 years of the latter's existence.

Basically Setanta and FSC are sharing games now. Each is basically poised to air one of the two premium games of the week (7:30 AM Saturdays, 11:00 AM Sundays).

I'm pretty sure this is the reason. Dish has a tendency of trying to be the first at getting new channels and trying to convince those new channels to give Dish an equity interest in there channel. They can get new subscribers by being the only one to have that channel but then after the exclusivity expires then they will make money from the channel when it is sold to their competitors.

I'd be happy with this - no reason to wake up early for a live free game anymore. Best of both worlds. :D

I agree. I don't get Setanta, but then again I never ordered PPV so that's a wash there. And FSC is going from 2 live games a weekend to 3. Gotta like that.

Interesting. Does this mean Setanta is getting out of the $20/head English pub CCTV business?

I wonder what happens to the FA Cup PPV games. Will they still be PPV or will they be aired on Setanta or FSC?

And the England games as well. That's a good question.

If I am not mistaken, the Setanta USA channel and the Setanta Pub Channel are different. Thus, I think we can still expect the $20/person for such matches as Euro 2008 qualifiers, Euro 2008 matches and perhaps even FA Cup matches.

Perhaps I am lucky going to the Globe in Chicago, but I was never charged for watching the Saturday or Sunday PPV matches there. Do most places charge?

That's right, I forgot that's there still all kinds of things for which they end up having right to that don't end up on the TV channel

Perhaps I am lucky going to the Globe in Chicago, but I was never charged for watching the Saturday or Sunday PPV matches there. Do most places charge? They're supposed to. IIRC, that's part of the deal bars make with Setanta in the first place...
