It should be more fair: 4 big confederations with their own World Cup qualifieng race and 4 big confederations for club world cup (toyota cup) qualifieng.

good idea?

I used to have my doubts about the proposed merger of CONCACAF and CONMEBOL mainly due to the required travel distance, but it really looks viable when you consider that the US and Canada aren't that far away from the SA countries.

I also like the idea of moving the Middle East, including Iran and S. Arabia, over to CAF; it'd help cut down travelling distances and would maybe (uneducated guess) help shift a balance of FIFA political power to Africa.

Combining the two American Federations sure would make for a better Copa America in more ways than one.

I don't know if I would move any Asian teams to CAF. There is already a depleted amount of talent in Asia. If S.Arabia and Iran were removed that would make room for 2 more weaker Asian teams.

That wouldn't cut any traveling costs. Iran/Saudi Arabia are just as far (if not further) from South Africa or Senegal as (than) they are from Japan or Indonesia. All it would do is shift traveling costs to South/West African teams and away from East Asian teams.

Not sure about any of the rest except that it would certainly be better to merge Oceania into Asia. However, as a USA football fan, I would actually prefer to be in a qualifying group where we faced tougher competition. I think both the Americans and Mexicans would usually be able to qualify with 8 spots up for grabs. It would be good for us to face some tougher opposition though, to have home and aways with Brazil and Argentina. I think it would give us a better idea of which players are really world class. Maybe keep something like the South American system now but with two groups?

Maybe if this ever happened you could also make the Copa America a real international tournament like Africa, Asia and Europe have where your best players play. One of the other frustrating things about being an American fan is that the world cup and qualifying is really all there is, disapointing performance and there's nothing to do but wait 4 years. Its hard to care too much about the Gold Cup.

Keep it simple, there should be four football confederations. OCF and AFC should merge. So should CONMEBOL and CONCACAF. The distances smaller teams have to travel in large confederations can be alleviated by geographicaly linked initial stages in qualifying. Then only the teams that qualify for the final stage will need to worry about long journeys.
