Having lived in the Netherlands for 6 years, I can safely say that this is one of the worse countries to live in if you fancy a wager every now and then. The State has a monopoly on all card and table games, as well as on sport betting. Trying to bypass that, I decided to register for an account on the William Hill website, only to get a notice telling me that my Dutch residence prevented me from betting on anything except horse and dog racing  ...
What I want to know is whether the address you fill in the registration form actually makes a difference or not. For the record, I plan on using online cash accounts like Paypal and Netteller.
Any info is much appreciated. The state-run football bookie gives just about the worse odds I can find.

Yes, your address makes a difference. William Hill won't allow Americans to set up accounts either. The bigger books are like that. It's going to take a little trial and error. Try to set up account with the following books:
http://www.bet365.com/
http://www.pinnaclesports.com/
http://www.vipsports.com/
http://www.betcris.com/
http://www.betwwts.com/
I'd be surprised if one of these didn't work.

Thanks for the info. I only went with William Hill because I wanted to avoid any dodgy websites. I'll give these sites a going over after today's games.

An update, in case any Dutch residents read this:
The reason for bet365 not accepting bets from the Netherlands is that the Dutch monopoly lotto won a case against Ladbrokes in the Dutch courts. The Dutch court held that Ladbrokes were operating illegally under Dutch law accepting bets over the internet from Dutch customers, despite the fact Ladbrokes operate from the UK. However, this is being challenged in both the European and Dutch courts and we are very hopeful that the decision will be eventually overturned. When the case is finally completed we will re-evaluate our position and hope to welcome Dutch customers back to bet365.
bet365 & pinnacle appear to adhere to this ruling. Luckily, Vipsports does not =D
