I heard that he is staying in belgium at least until the winter break to maybe improve his stock in the champions league, and get attention from bigger clubs.

Time to take another look at the large American?

I think with the news that Mensah is not coming to Reading that it might be time to make a renewed bid.

I really don't think he is going to move to a non-CL club until after Standard is knocked out of it. Maybe at the winter transfer Reading could get him, but not right now.

If Standard is knocked out and he plays in the second game (which I'd guess he will), he would only move to a team that isn't in either the UEFA Cup or Champions League, or at least a team that doesn't think they would need him in either competition. If they do lose that second game to Steaua and Gooch knows he won't be playing in the Champions League, he may consider coming to a club in a better league where he'll see better competition than in Belgium. And the fact that Reading already has Convey and Hahnemann certainly wouldn't hurt.

His statements, coupled with his agent's statements, were a pretty classic "come and get me" plea.
Whether Reading could afford the wages he wants is another matter.

Reading F.C confirmed today that they have had two £5M bids rejected for unnamed players.

Considering Reading always keep their cards very close to their chest regarding transfers I can only see this as the club trying to appease any complacent fans out there........then again, you never know.

The clause in Goochs' contract was apparently triggered by a significantly lower offer, so I doubt Reading put out an offer to him. I thought the two bids were Mensah and the Ivorian?

But weren't both of those offers supposedly lower than 5 million pounds? I think the Mensah offer was reported at 3.5 million.

Yeah, they both were, and reading the Reading website piece, it's clear coppell was talking about two other offers. I doubt gooch was offered 5 million, though, because whether or not he would have signed, standard would have accepted the offer and allowed negotiations. Maybe Lescott was one? Isnt' that what he moved for.

It was what Lescott was originally meant to go to Everton for but he failed his medical and instead went for £2M with many clauses based around attendances which will take it up to £5M

Amongst the rumours going round is that one of these bids was for Matthew Kilgallon. £5M would be over the top but he is a damn good player and will only get better with age so I wouldn't be too unhapy with that.

Also looks like Bikey will be coming in now.

It definately would have been good to have gotten Kilgallon, he's only 22 and already has seen a good amount of time with the first team at Leeds. I wish something could have been worked out there (or possibly can).

I'd be glad with Bikey coming in, its always good to have a versatile player like that. Hopefully he can avoid blowing up and adjust to playing in England.

Haven't heard locomotiv would go for a loan. Where are you hearing or seeing that he's coming in (BIKEY)?

Lots of rumours now about us signing Kilgallon for a fee somewhere between £3M - £5M.

We are also being linked with a move for Millwall midfielder Marvin Elliott

The rumors on kilgallon I've seen are for pds 1m, which sounds a little low, given that he's put gregan on the bench (gregan isn't bad, IMO), and 400k for elliot.
In addition, there's Cruz in training right now and Rangers striker Kris Boyd ( would challenge to start, I'd think).
It's taken a while, but there are at least a lot of rumors now. I think kilgallon would be a good move. combined with bikey and cruz, I'd think Reading's defensive issues would be settled.
Like to see one more mid, though.

Confirmed - Leeds Utd have rejected a £1.3M offer from Reading for Kilgallon

£1.3 is seriously taking the piss but I suppose you have to start the negotiation somewhere. I would be happy paying over £3M for the boy, he is very special.

Bates says he's "going nowhere", which seems to mean for no (reasonable) price. But it could just be worthless jabber..

What's the status on Onyewu? Is he staying at St. de Liege permanently? Think he might transfer next season?

One of the rumors around here is that he is leaving at the winter window. This seems likely with Standard not qualifying for the CL, which seemed to be one of the reasons he wanted to stay. I have not seen any quotes from him or the team on his status.
