Interesting ideas....I can agree with these :

2. Assign the second striker role to Louis Saha, who's just as good a finisher as Trezeguet and much more lively and creative. The streaky Juventus forward may have a reasonable goalscoring record but he's never really hit it off with Thierry Henry (they may have hooked up for the opener last night, but they only notched two between them in the qualifiers) and generally has about as much impact on proceedings as the corner flags do, except, of course, when it comes to headbutting Israeli defenders. On the few occasions Saha has partnered Henry, they have looked like the most dazzling French couple since René and Edith Artois.

--Glad somebodyelse has noticed (admitted) this aside from myself, ilv2, and a few others.

3. Deploy wonder-youngster Franck Ribéry on the right side of midfield, where Vieira, wholly predictably, has been less effective than a bike in a boat race. Ribéry is fast, tricky and direct. He gets crosses in and creates havoc. This, Raymond, is a Good Thing.

--At least as a sub very early in the second half if things aren't going well.

5. Hastily backtrack on the decision to call up Sidney Govou to replace Cissé. Instead give Ludovic Giuly a bell. OK, the Champions League winner is currently on holiday in Australia having been bizarrely spurned by Domenech, but the manager must swallow his pride, admit that Giuly's omission was a lunatic blunder and hope the Barcelona man makes like a boomerang and comes back.

--At least that much of the statement I like....the part about Zidane I'm not so sure.

Oh - and 6. Plonk Fabien Barthez on the bench too. Don't bother with the cushion. Do remember Grégory Coupet, though.

-- Barthez has made some great saves and some monumental blunders. Coupet seems to be the better choice.

excuse me for being slightly rude, but who are you and what do you know of the team?

I pretty much kick it in the Peru forum and Mexico forum. I read your guys stuff all the time here.

I know that Domenech is a stubborn bastard. Maybe Ribery should be given the helms. That Guily and Pires should be on the team. THat Coupet should be starting...

That Trezeguet is really Argentinan :p

Oh and I actually like Dhorasoo. Because he's french of Mauritian blood. I just think thats cool.

oh ok, er sorry about that, it's just frustrating to have such an idiot at helm and yet it seems as though nobody realizes it (or rather nobody DOES anything about it).

cool.

Im not agreeing with Domenech's choice either. I thought Govou plays as an attacking mid at Lyon. Not a forward. Plus I hear he has lapses in concentration and cant defend.

But he has a spark of magic everynow and then.. So Dom must know exactly how to use him since he coached him at Lyon (i assume).

This guy is like phenomenal. I remember living in Lyon some years ago with my girlfriend and everytime we were at games with the local team, he was running up and down on the pitch. It was like he was on fire.

Well Govou isn't one of the best 23 french players but he's a good sub, he'll not talk to the press, whine about not playing, he can play as a right midfielder and he'll be happy to play the World Cup that's for sure! he was platooned all year on a team he captained for a while, and never a peep out of him until the end

damn Domenech for his stupid losange midfield. Playing Viera as a right midfielder is a very stupid idea. If he trully wants to play like that, I hope he's gonna put Viera on the bench. But I would love to see a 451 with Make-Viera in the center you're more observant than i am for seeing that viera is on the right in this so-called formation. frankly i can't make head nor tail of what's going on on the field. this lozenge sticks in my throat too!

your take on govou is blurry. he started his career as forward, but was moved back a notch because 1) he's a spotty (though occasionally brilliant) finisher, but can cover lots of ground, is very concentrated and defends very well. OL requires everybody to defend. even the point man has defensive duties: mark the keeper!

I guess if we all could coach so well, then we all should be professional coaches then, right?

Dom Dom was obviously good enough to get the job. He was good enough to lead the Youth teams. And when you think about it for a moment, we had nobody that could have given us a chance at making the WC, not just winning it until Zizou and friends decided to return for the "Country"! For "Pride of their Country"! Not money.....

The only picks I disagree were Giuly and Pires not making it, Dhorasoo and Chimbonda making it. Let's through in Boumsong while we are at it. Anelka screwed himself of the team. He made a bad decision to leave for Turkey first of all, he used the press all to often to say nothing but negative things towards the coaches and the federation.

exactly!

being a youth team coach requires very different strengths, that primarily being the development of youngsters and the training thereof rather than the emphasis on tactics and creating a balance between the players at your disposal. Domenech is clearly lacking in the tactics department and as a result has not employed the players in a manner that would get anything good out of them (e.g. vieira on the right, not knowing how to employ trezeguet, etc.), let alone in a manner that would permit them to win the world cup (which he always maintains is possible).

And when you think about it for a moment, we had nobody that could have given us a chance at making the WC, not just winning it until Zizou and friends decided to return for the "Country"! For "Pride of their Country"! Not money.....

if i understood you correctly, you're saying we wouldn't have qualified without "zizou and friends." I would strongly disagree, even without them we had sufficient talent to qualify for the finals with ease. Compare us to the other teams in our qualifying group and you'll realize that it's not a matter of who we had but how we used them that became the fault - and that blame largely rests upon the shoulders of the coach.

The only picks I disagree were Giuly and Pires not making it, Dhorasoo and Chimbonda making it. Let's through in Boumsong while we are at it. Anelka screwed himself of the team. He made a bad decision to leave for Turkey first of all, he used the press all to often to say nothing but negative things towards the coaches and the federation.

right, nobody is disagreeing w/ anelka. In this respect I am fully in accord with the danger he poses in the vestiaire. However, the other picks or the rather the absences from the squad have started to come back to haunt the team. Who to play on the right side, for example, when Ribery is best employed later in the game? Certainely not Vieira; Dhorasoo is nul; neither Wiltord or Govou seem to even figure as starters, or moreover neither possess enough quality to be starters in this "wc winning" equipe de france. The consequence is that the team finds itself completely unbalanced and we'll have to wait until tuesday to see if Domenech finally addresses this issue. Boumsong, while it's a little easier to accept his selection, it's only that way simply because none of the back four are injured. There were certainely better options, and his decision to take Boumsong might have the unintended but totally predictable consequence of a blunder in the back knocking the team out of the world cup.
