For the world cup, would you guys suggest the George and Dragon as a good place to watch?

Yes, but get there at least an hour early for any match you plan on watching.. and at least 2 or 3 hours early for any England or US game. Bare in mind that the probability that you will be able to move during the 90 minutes of the match is something quite close to zero. They've even added TVs out in the parking lot, it's going to be crazy.

Here's the g&d schedule for live showings and replays: link (http://www.georgeanddragonpub.com/football.html).

I just heard an ad on the radio yesterday for fox sports grill that said they would be showing every game live (95% positive on the live part). Here's a link that gives some details. (http://www.foxsportsgrill.com/seattle/events.aspx) If you're staying downtown this might be a better option for you.. it won't be nearly as crowded as the g&d. They have about 30 (+?) HD flat screens all over the place.

If you have any more questions, like how to get where, etc. Ask away. Where are you staying?

Near UDub campus (conference). I take it that it'll be packed fort the Mexico-Portugal and Iran-Angola matches on the 21st even though they start at 7 am?

Tough to say, you'll probably be able to sit if you get there at 6:30. But I imagine you could come in at 7 and still have a spot to stand that you could see the match(es) from. It will be packed for the noon games that day though. Good luck!

G & D is definitely gonna be nuts...and props to them for showing all the games n HD, too. With the games being on major cable channels, there's going to be loads of places to watch if you don't want to deal with crowds, though. Even this little pizza spot in West Seattle (Abbondanza) is opening early for all the games. For Brazil matches you might want to check out the restaurant Tempero do Brasil.

Sadly, I just about shattered part of my big toe in a match last weekend so me and my new titanium toe will be relegated to the couch. The upside is that at least I'll have loads of soccer to watch in HD while nursing this thing!

I belong to the People Who Hate People group, so let me know where y'all will be. And I'll make sure I'm somewhere else :)

Sadly, I'll be in Pasco for the dreaded U14 League Placement Tournament all weekend. Then I'm in Boise for the Far West Regionals till the 25th. Grr... But you can bet the mobile screen will be in the ref tent there. And I will bring my DVD recorder to record all the games at the hotel while I'm on the pitch.

you do our fine city proud with your eccentricities.

but what i've been dying to know is what japanese cartoon is your avatar from? I remember watching that show when i was a wee tot back in the early 80's... but I can't remember much beyond the blue/gray and maroon spaceship (with the massive cannon hull, of course) that looked like an oil tanker and the captain.

I can't think of any bar anywhere that shows more matches during the year.

I'm surprised Kell's in Portland made the list, but I suppose it's only concerning the world cup..

Interesting also to see the Brewhouse, the Globe and Nevada Smiths on the list, all places you hear about people meeting up at on this board frequently.

Give antifan the kewpie doll prize.

It's indeed from "Spaceship Yamato" aka Star Blazers. And typical of my stupid sense of humor, the avatar is...well, it's an avatar of "Captain Avatar."

"I'm too clever for my shirt, too clever for my clique, too clever..." Right said, Ned.

It's no surprise to me that G & D pub is at the top of the list for footy pubs. They've done amazing things to sponsor and support the sport, with their own women's team, and formerly a couple of men's amateur teams as well. Quite the folks there, yup. And the Fremont location helps immensely. There are a couple other places I know are showing the WC, but most of them piss me off. Get it? WC? Piss? Oh, nevermind...it's too early in the morning...

Wow, the Times actually wrote about soccer?

I'm surprised to see the Kangaroo & Kiwi mentioned. It's right down the street from my house. Usually I watch rugger there, but I suppose it isn't a surprise they're showing the Cup matches with the Aussies involved.
