I anticipate this will be a short thread - please let's just keep it to news, and not speculation. Thought it would be easier to consolidate final responses from cable companies.

Since we are only 4 days away, does anyone, anywhere have some info that ESPN2HD will be available for the World Cup on their cable company.

I sent an email to Charter to get a final response, so I will post as soon as I get a reply.

Here was my response. I gather this will be the same across the US.

"Thank you for contacting Charter Communications. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.

I still have no additional information regarding ESPN 2 being added to the HD
lineup on either a permanent or temporary basis in time for the World Cup. I
have sent a message to the Escalation Department for your area requesting that you be contacted with any additional information. An Escalation Specialist will contact you as soon as they can find any additional information."

No, but I have several nice responses from Time Warner thanking me for my valuable input and assuring me that my opinion matters a great deal to them.

I got this reply from Comcast yesterday:

Dear Mr. Lewis, thank you for your letter. We believe that we are very close on completing an agreement with Disney/ABC in regards to getting ESPN2 on in HD. You and me both want to be also to see the Cup games in HD. We are working on it as hard as we can, but this is a national agreement. Unfortunately we do not control the decision on this here locally. Thank you for being a customer of Comcast. John Dietrich

We'll probably get it on July 10th

Exactly.

ABC-HD, ESPN-HD and ESPN2-HD are available thru DirecTV, but you need the HD dish and receiver. I recently purchased a 62in Toshiba HD television and watched the Arsenal/Barcelona final on ESPN2-HD and the picture was stunning! Cannot wait til Friday! I would call DirecTV 1-800-DIRECTV and order if you can afford to--the receiver may cost $100 and they can have an installer to your house in 2-3 days. Good luck.

I've resisted DirecTV because several bloggers said that the HD is compressed and doesn't look very good. (Also, they want $300 up front for an HD DVR lease). You're the first to say how good the HD picture looks, and with me wanting Setanta for next season, it might just well be DirecTV.

Mediacom Cable in Iowa has ESPN2HD.
I have an HDTV.

What I DON'T have is an HD box 'cause the stupid fools at Mediacom can't fill an order in a month's time...and have no idea when the boxes will come in from backorder.

I'm not a cable customer - already get ESPN2HD through DISH.

But I read somewhere on avsforum that Comcast is likely to add ESPN2HD "soon". It was in an email Comcast President and COO Steve Burke sent to some poster.

Okay, I am very jealous and just fired off an email to Charter asking for their comment of Charter's announcement.

It took me 3-4 days of calling and working with Customer service reps, but I finally have ESPN2HD in Lansing, MI. It was discovered that I needed to be upgraded to Digital Plus, rather than Digital Classic as their internal documentation says. The rep credited my account for the extra $5.00 for this month and is checking into the issue of Digital Plus v Digital Classic. In my channel guide, there is no label on 203 and every 30 min block is TBA, but using the ESPN2HD schedule, I was able to manually set my DVR to record the day games in stunning beautiful HD :)
