As the World Cup gets closer and closer, I'm finding that my productivity is getting progressively worse. My focus is steadily going downhill, and all I can think about day, night, morning, in the shower, on the train, at my desk, is the fact that in 9 days I board a plane to Germany, and a week from Saturday, I'll be living a dream, attending a US match at the World Cup.

Am I the only one? I seriously can't get anything done.

You are not alone.

Have to say I'm glad I found this place. Sometimes it feels like I am. My coworkers are mildly amused at best, patronizing at worst about my obsession, and most of my friends range from tolerant to ignorant on the topic.

I haven't slept properly in about a week. I'm getting nothing done at work. The anticipation is killing me. It's worse than being a 6 year old at Christmas.

I only hope that once it starts I'll actually calm down, because at least the anticipation will be over.

My flight leaves on Sunday but I am already mostly packed and cannot get a thing done at work. All I can think about is getting to germany. My posting rate has gone up at an unhealthy amount.

My name is NBlue and I am a world cup addict.

I'm a medical student taking the Step 1 boards (an extremely important test for residency applications) next Tuesday and I can barely focus. I first scheduled my test for the 8th so that I wouldn't have to worry about studying once the games started but I realized that I needed more time so I pushed it back until after the US game. It's awful. Especially since I've been studying for over a month now.

I can't wait to hit the bars next Wednesday!

Remind me in the future to always make sure that my doctors are not obsessive soccer fans.

You know, I just read an article about how one study has attempted to diagnose road rage as a 'disorder'. Perhaps we can do the same? Let's come up with some catchy buzz words that can characterize our symptoms and then diagnose our illness. :)

I'll get us started:

- Daydreaming
- Unable to concentrate
- Obsessed

True, but if you drop dead from a heart attack watching the US go up 3-0 in the first half against an outside favorite (I'm sure someone, somewhere, at least had chest pains), and your doctor is as fanatical about the Cup as most of us are, you'll be waiting for the match to finish before he'll have time to tend to you. :p

Doctor: Hmm, OK, so I've made the initial incision ...

Nurse: Doc, something wrong? We've to replace this liver. Man, could this guy drink.

Doctor: Uh, yea, just give me a minute, OK?

Nurse: We don't have a minute!!!

Doctor: Damn! I was suppose to cover this in Med school, but I couldn't concentrate with the World Cup coming up. When they didn't ask about livers in my exam, I just sort of figured it wasn't that important.

That's a low blow. I know plenty about the liver. :D

Alright, alright, I'm putting the laptop away. Back to the books. Sheesh!

Glad I'm not alone on this. Productivity had declined, but I'm still trying hard to close out strong! Pray for me...there's lots to do and I leave Thursday.

Can't wait!

I've got a calendar in my room from World Soccer Magazine that has been counting the days down since January 1st, 2006.

I have purchased every magazine, newspaper, book out there that is related to this years world cup

I have been on this site too much.

Here in the office, I get the daily:

I. So are you excited?
II. Brazil is going to win, watch you will see! [Non Soccer Fans]

Driving home, at work, at the gym, waking up, almost every though is about me walking into that arena in Gelsenkirchen next Monday attending a world cup game to support the Red, White and Blue!

Saying that I am excited is an understatment.

This country has world cup fever. Wait, it isn't a fever, it is worse than a bird-flu panademic.

Every store from glitzy shops in Berlin to little storefronts in Erfurt have World Cup gear. The largest department store in Berlin had an entire floor dedicated to Joga Bonito, including an impressive display of US kits. Every station has some sort of program, whether it be CNN International or the evening porn advertisements. This place is bleeding World Cup.

And it is the only place I want to be right now.

Just thinking about the Ktown Red White and Brew while walking down the street got me pumped. I could feel the exciting causing my blood pressure to skyrocket. I am going to explode when we sing the National Anthem in Gelsenkirchen.

It got to the point where my friends at college stopped talking soccer to me because, 'I would start to foam at the mouth and lose all control.'

June 9 and June 12 cannot happen soon enough. I am ********ing ready!!!!!

I'll be airborn in 24 hours.

Columbus-Philladelphia-Amsterdam.

8am Thursday in Amsterdam I'll have the breakfast of champions to calm the nerves.

Productivity has been slashed to one endless bigsoccer thread.
