Anyone have any? Supposedly it started yesterday with the 20s playing a Regional amateur team.

Yet, I went to US Soocer's site, the US Amateur Soccer Association's site (The USASA is the official host), and the festival's official site and found NO SCORES, which is sadly par for the course for this type of thing but also pretty effin pathetic. I also went to the Houston Chronicle's site and they they had no mention of the festival.

Any help out there?

I couldn't get there for this one so I don't have any first hand evaluations. I was wondering if anyone else made it?

The U-20's won 2-1 over Region II. Justin Mapp scored the second (and winning) goal. The next game is Tuesday against Region III.

Who were the other goal scorers? Any idea how the plays developed? We're nuts here for that kind of thing, ya know.

The information I received (since I was not present) was sketchy. I do not know how the first goal developed. I was told that Justin beat four defenders by himself and buried a shot from just inside the box. It was supposedly beautiful.

Sweet. Any ideas where Mapp was playing? We've heard he might be playing centrally in addition to the left wing. I actually saw him attack from the right wing for the U17s against El Salvador last year.

Mapp played left wing. Wegerle and Cameron started up top. Barclay played on the right.

Who were the central mids then?

My understanding is that Barclay scored the other goal.

Stone and Saavedra. I have no idea who played on the backline.

Bethlehem, thanks for the 411 - it is greatly appreciated.

Between your posts here and on the Burn forum, why do I get the distinct impression that your are privy to some first hand reports?

BTW, the next time you talk to your "source" can you give us some info on the mysterious Steve Shirley? Where is he from? What position does he play? Where does or will he go to college or play pro ball?

Thanks, and please continue to keep us up to date.

Anyone remember folllowing the US Soccer Festival when it was held Portland a few years ago? Portland had a website that included the roster for every team in the competition. I'd be interested to see the names of the players on the Amateur teams involved this year. Portland's website provided excellent game summaries, lineups and goal scorers for all the games with post game quotes from the coaches. They even had pictures of Bruce Arena watching a game from the stands.

Then the tournament went to Rhode Island the next year, where the zero coverage from the USSF and very little in the Rhode Island media, except fot stuff on the Rhode Island state team. There was no website by the RI hosts. Fortunately, I received info from a Canadian that attended the USA U-20/Canada U-20 game.

Last year it was in Chicago. The USSF did manage to get the U-18s lineups on their website, since the tournament was based in their backyard. But no rosters for the other teams could be found anywhere.

Houston has a pretty nice website. But, it looks like it's more of an informational tool for people running the tournament. They don't seem too concerned with the results. No rosters, lineups or even scores can be found.

I've sent emails to the USSF and Houston challenging them to step up their coverage. I'm also planning to contact the webmaster of the Canada website, to see if they can provide info on the USA U-20 team. Maybe Canada will help out. They always have timely lineups and stories on their teams.

You mean Mapp can kick the ball into the goal?? Then why isn't he getting playing time for DC (WE SUCK) United?? ;)

Because Ray thinks that players under age 25, who aren't named Santino or Bobby (established before Ray's tenure), are only good for picking up the balls after practice.

Mapp can obviously play. Give him a shot Ray!

Note: Why the hell did Ray draft Mapp when United had Convey? Both Left-Sided midfielders.......

I love Ray, but I wonder......

US Soccer wire confirms Bethlehem's posts (not that we doubted you there Beth!)

Who are some of the players on these region teams? Are they current college players? Anyone have any names?

Let's be fair to Ray, it's not as if Mapp has not received a fair chance to make the team. He had an entire half against Boca Juniors to impress.
