Is anyone else slightly flipping out like my wife is? Last week we were planning on it being cool out in germany. Now the forcast for the gelsenkirchen game says sunny and 82f.
We are trying to pack lite but now she wants to bring something for every type of weather....I was just joking with her to pack some winter jackets, but she didnt find that one to funny.
Any locals hearing what the weather is suppose to be like over the next 2 weeks?

Wow...sounds like my girlfriend. I feel you, but if you're trying to pack light, there's no sense in packing everything. It's better to freeze one night that carry a bulky winter jacket and not need it...
Weather should be warming up. I've checked the 10 day forecast and it's going to get better just in time for Cup.
I'm just hoping they don't make me check my backpack in...

I've been to Germany a few times in the summer, and the weather is pretty variable. Just be flexible with what you pack. It'll probably be hot sometimes, but it'll probably rain at some point, as well. I'll have a rain jacket and a fleece to wear underneath in case it gets cold.
As far as the weather report goes, you probably have as much information as anyone in Germany just by checking on Yahoo or Weather.com. Though natives could probably give us better advice on what to pack based on experience...
Good luck!

I just dont want it to rain on gamedays , any other day is fine by me .

I'm bringing a few pairs of casual chino pants, some loose cotton polo shirts over white t-shirts, my match gear (red USA shirt, #21 away jersey), and a very light Goretex jacket in case it rains and gets a little cool in the evenings. That should do. Oh, boxers and socks, too.

The weather in Germany can change rather quickly, so if you're staying for two weeks, you should definitely pack something for cool as well as hot weather. You definitely won't need winter jackets though. ;)
It was pretty cold for the last couple of weeks (it even snowed in some parts of the country!), but it's warming up now, so hopefully the weather will be nicer for the World Cup. It's pretty much unpredictable though...

Think layers. You don't necessarily have to have your big jacket. But your tshirt, a long sleeve shirt underneath and hoodie (or whatever) on top and you're good to go. And presumably you'd have all that stuff as it is. With that combo you can just have a very thin and very light rain/windbreaker in the event of rain and you're set for just about any weather possibility. Living in Seattle (which seems to have a similar climate) this is pretty commonplace. All my pants are also "convertible" which means the legs zip off to shorts, so no extra space needed for shorts. OK, not high fashion, but it works, and it's not that bad. REI is your friend. And remember, this is the "first world"; If you need it in a jam, you can probably find it and buy it.

At the moment it's still rather chilly, but it's going to get better every day now, and according to recent forecasts summer will be back just in time for the event of the year.
Have fun in Germany!

Current extended forecast shows 83  for Monday, June 12. That's still a ways out and subject to change, and the trend seems to be more moderate after that, with ten days out being around 70.
I can't find an extended forecast for Kaiserslautern, but Mannheim and Heidelberg show partly cloudy and 73-74 F for the 15th, farthest date out in the current long range forecast. Nighttime is trending in the mid-50s to low 60s for that same range. No precipitation in the current forecasts.
Reality may vary.

Layers.
According to weather.com, it's supposed to be in the high '70's during the first part of next week - so far, no rain in forecast!

Im going to be layering shirts......Im usually shorts only after memorial, its a personal rule. My legs dont get cold but the arms do. My wife is still packing me a couple pairs of jeans. The nice thing is our villa has a washer and dryer so we will be able to wash clothes over the 2 weeks.
My wife is mainly freaking out because I keep telling her we are going to bring back more than we are taking so we dont want to much crap........I dont need 4 pairs of jeans.

Looks like my bag will be a little bigger than it was for Korea. Since I live in San Francisco though I know a little about variable summertime weather. See you all in Deutschland!

Yeah, 4 pairs of jeans sounds like serious overkill. Particularly because you have access to a washer/dryer. Good call on bringing back more than you take over, too.

I'm going commando so I will have that space in the luggage. No need to wash either :)
One pair of shorts, one pair of jeans, one pair of dockers, tennis shoes, three t-shirts, two polo shirts, one US jersey, US sweatshirt/windbreaker, and a dark sport coat plus tie for the possible nice restaurant.

There is a freaking monsoon outside at the moment. Hope it clears up by next week.
Forecast in Berlin is for 20°C/68°F by the weekend. We're a long way from that right now, though.

REMEMBER:
Pack your tickets
Pack your voucher for tix in Germany if you have one
Pack your passport
Pack your prescriptions/medicine
Pack important numbers and names
Just about anything else you can get in Germany if you really have to*. Maybe even that last bit. But if you forget your tix you are going to hate yourself forever.
I'll probably just bring my red "good luck" kit from Korea. It's close enough for the Ticos and Korea games I also hope to attend. Don't think I own an orange shirt. At least I kind of hope I don't.
*I don't ever recall seeing antiperspirant in Germany, just deodorant. Not sure if this was an FDA kind of thing or if Germans just don't go in for antiperspirant (maybe they think it's "unhealthy").

I've found scarves quite handy when the weather's unpredictable. They are light and don't take up much space. Besides, it's a nice way to wear your national colors.
Pack an extra pair of glasses if you wear them.
I'd recommend taking out the id cards, credit/debit cards, checks, key cards...etc. that you usually put in your wallet/purse if you are not gonna use them in Germany. Only bring the ones you'll use and make photocopies/write down the #s just in case. I lost my wallet in a trip to East Asia before. Was foolish enough to put ALL my IDs (student ID, work ID, social security card...etc.) and debit/ATM cards (issued by banks in two different countries) that I had no use there in the wallet. Thankfully someone found and returned it. Would've been a major pain to replace all of them.
